  5. Fallkniven - Taiga Hunter knife - TH - SanMai CoS Steel - thermorun - knife

The taiga knives are distinctive hunting and all-round knives for the demanding user. A strong blade in laminated cobalt steel does not only mean a stable function, you notice quite quickly that the edge holds the sharpness really well without being brittle. The reason is the fine, well heat treated and tempered steel but also the convex shaped edge that is not only strong but also wood-sharp. The ergonomic shape of the handle provides a secure grip regardless of weather and wind.

If you look at function and most value for money, the rubber-handle Taiga blades should be preferred. Regardless of the weather and wind, the rubber handle gives a really good grip and when it comes to the steel properties they are of course as good as the knives with wooden handles.

  6. Fallkniven - Taiga knife SK2L - SanMai CoS Steel - ironwood - knife

As shown in the design, TH1 is a handmade knife with a handle in the very exclusive desert ironwood (lat. Olneya tesota). This species is not listed in CITES Annexes or the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species and is therefore legal to use. Like all natural materials, it varies in texture and color, making each knife an individual creation. A beautifully veined pattern may look attractive but a straight, patterned handle is actually stronger. Desert ironwood, which grows in the southwestern United States, has a somewhat peculiar quality – it is heavier than water, its density is 1.2 kg/dm³ which means it will sink. If you want to maintain or even increase the luster in the wood, treat it with log oil, furniture oil, bench oil or other type of wood oil containing linseed oil. The fact that the blade goes full width through the handle (so-called full tang blade) results in a very strong and reliable construction and gives a comfortable weight to the knife.

  7. Higonokami - Kanekoma knife - Black Small Pocket Knife Japan

Charming knife used by the Japanese farmer.

As is typical for many agricultural tools, this Japanese knife is also extremely simple but the result of a centuries-old improvement that has found the difficult balance between form and function, and between cost and benefit.

The main feature is certainly the quality of the blade, in fact it uses a three-layer San Mai steel, of which the very hard one in the center.

It has a razor wire, as befits a tool created to cut and not just to be displayed in display cases.

Blade: San Mai carbon steel - Yasuki Steel Blue Paper Steel 62hrc in clad

    Length closed: 92mm.

  18. Kai Japan - Shun Higonokami Personal Steak - DM5900 - Pocket steak knife

This beautiful folding knife is an extremely sought-after accessory, whether used as a gentleman's knife or as a personal steak knife.

The Higonokami style of knives was the very first produced in Japan, in fact it could already be found in 1896, during the Meiji period. One of the main features of the traditional Higo Nokami design is the protruding opening pin when the blade is closed, which allows the blade to be opened smoothly even with one hand.

Shun's Higo Nokami not only includes the traditional opening pin, but also makes improvements to the original design by also going to incorporate a Liner Lock type blade locking system to make the user experience more secure. A modern, thin and sharp VG10 stainless steel was also chosen, making the Higo Nokami perfect for use as a personal steak knife. The Pakkawood handle is enhanced by a central inlaid mosaic pin.

  26. Rockstead - HIGO II X-FCF - ZDP-189 & Dark Matter Gold Carbon Fiber - folding knife

Higo is one of the most beloved models for Rockstead Knives fans around the world, and HIGOⅡX, with a custom Dark Matter Gold (DMG) carbon fiber coating and a titanium back layer, is one more step in the pursuit of perfection. The blade is made of ZDP189 super stainless steel and features a unique convexity with gradually reduced angle (30 degrees at the middle and 24 degrees at the tip). The variable blade angle is the result of Rockstead's long quest for superior sharpness and cutting ability.

Blade: ZDP-189 stainless steel at 66.7HRC

  48. Mcusta - Yatagarasu collection knife - Limited Edition - MCSY-001 - knife

Extremely limited edition Yatagarasu MCUSTA folding knife of the Shinwa series, with Mokume blade and produced in only 100 pieces.

Yatagarasu, in Japanese culture, is a three-legged crow symbol of driving owned by the Sun goddess Amaterasu. Yatagarasu appears in ancient Japanese documents, such as Kojiki (古 事 記), in which it is also said that he fought and killed a beast intending to devour the Sun, and that he is also the protector of the emperor Jimmu.
On many occasions, in Japanese art this creature is represented with three legs, although in Kojiki it is never said that the Yatagarasu has more than two. Today, the three-legged version of the Yatagarasu is used as a symbol of the football federation of Japan.
