In collaboration with Wander Tactical we have decided to propose their heavy duty, the Smilodon model, in an exclusive satin blade version that uses the famous Japanese steel San Mai produced by Takefu Steel. Specifically, for the central plate we used the 61.5HRC CoS (Cobalt Special, mechanically considered 25% higher than the already highly appreciated VG10) and the 420J2 (at 56 HRC) for the two side plates in order to guarantee a very high cutting capacity, but at the same time a remarkable resistance to abrasion, resilience and oxidation resistance.

Rolled steel - imported into Italy from Collini Steel directly from the Japanese Takefu Steel - is based on the ancient Japanese tradition in the creation of the famous Samurai swords. Already in 1100 the expert Japanese blacksmiths in fact combined different materials to give the Katana swords incredible cutting capabilities combined with a resistance and flexibility previously unknown. It is thanks to this revolutionary construction technique that the swords from Samurai have been preserved to the present day becoming one of the most fascinating objects made by man. Following this tradition applied to modern metallurgy, we are now able to have technologically advanced steels already tested and used in cutlery also by famous brands such as Fallkniven, Cold Steel, Mcusta, Kai, Sog, Zwilling, Rockstead, etc.

Characteristics of San Mai steel: These are different types of metals bonded together to create a composite that encloses and intensifies the strengths of the metals taken individually:

 

- Longer tool life
thanks to the use of high quality steel with a high carbon content (VG10, CoS, Shiro) or sintered (SPG2), in the heart of the sheet (Core Steel), the blade once hardened, achieves hardness and cutting performance decidedly higher than those achieved with the use of traditional steels.

- Greater resilience
built with the principle of Japanese swords, multilayer steel is difficult to break thanks to the toughness of the central steel (Core Steel) and the elasticity of the steel used for the lateral coating (Stainless Steel).

- Better corrosion resistance
the steel used for the external layers (Stainless Steel) guarantees the blade a high resistance to corrosion. The combination of the two or more materials used by Takefu Steel generates, at the galvanic level, a structure that improves the corrosion resistance also on the wire.

- Easy processing even after heat treatment
although normally the steel becomes harder after hardening, the lateral steel used in multi-layer processing does not lose its softness and allows easy processing, drilling or welding even after heat treatment. For optimum performance of the blade, cryogenic treatment is recommended.

- Improvement of the aesthetic result
The knives made with multistate steel or with a damask pattern at the end of the processing are aesthetically elegant, refined and highly appreciated by collectors all over the world.

From Spyderco website: We are proud to reintroduce the T01 SpydeRench, it is truly a revolutionary addition to the multi-tool industry. The T01 SpydeRench includes a real Spyderco knife with a locking full-sized, one-hand open / close knife blade and pocket clip, plus much more. Designed by an aerospace engineer in conjunction with Spyderco's research and development department, the T01 is made of investment-cast 17-4ph corrosion resistant stainless steel and features an adjustable crescent wrench with an opening capacity of 9/16 ". On the opposite end, a 2-setting slip joint plier fits comfortably in the hand that has been contour casted, no pinched fingers. A set of four screwdriver bits tuck deftly inside, including: a # 2 and # 3 Phillips-head as well as a # 1 and # 2 flat-head. The SpydeRench also accepts any standard 1/4 "sized bit from your hardware store, including Allen and Torx.

The tool also features a diamond-coated file featuring a concave, convex and flat sharpening surface with a small Phillips head on one side and a hole starter on the other end. A unique pivot pin allows the tool to rotate into an extended position that locks open creating a full-sized easy to grip screwdriver and crescent wrench. By releasing the pivot, the screwdriver and knife portion of the tool can separate from the crescent wrench allowing both tools to be used independently and / or simultaneously. AUS-8 premium stainless steel was chosen for the full-sized locking knife blade.

The USMC KA-BAR is considered one of the most famous knives in the world. It was originally designed for United States troops in the Second World War and its effectiveness has since been universally recognized and used in many other military scenarios.

Frank Centofante is a well-known legend in the worldwide custom cutlery industry.

Frank started producing knives on a professional level in 1970, in 1971 he joined the Knifemakers Guild holding the position of President between 1989 and 1996. He was also a member of the Cutlery Hall of Fame and of the Italian Knifemakers Guild.

He was particularly known for the production of high-end collectible folding knives.

Frank Centofante died on September 7, 2009 after suffering from a long illness.
