The Theseus, named after the hero who defeated the Minotaur in ancient Greek mythology, is constructed in true Medford style. It features a tumbled D2 steel blade with stepped thumb groove and extended tang to facilitate quick one-handed use. After more than 40 years of service in the US Army Special Forces, Curtis Iovito and Mark Carey founded Spartan Blades LLC in North Carolina.

Curtis, who for years had been designing and designing knives for friends in the special forces and Mark, who had always been involved in military equipment and tactics when he worked in the "Green Berets", decided to combine their skills and their passion with the goal to build innovative and functional knives using materials of the highest quality and made entirely in the United States.
