This slender-shaped knife with a curved handle derives from ancient models used by the shepherds of Abruzzo. Its adoption in the repertoire of knives manufactured in Scarperia (where the particular crease of the handle earned it the name of "hunchback") dates back to the late nineteenth century and took place without flashy changes compared to the original type, equipped with a simple spring and one-piece bovine horn handle. The first certain information on this knife dates back to 1848. A specimen, dated 1871, is kept in the State Archives of Florence, attached to the documents of a trial against a convicted person. The mark of a Scarperia manufacturer, Gustavo Buffi, is clearly visible on it, the shape of the blade is that with an angled back, also maintained in the twentieth century and present in the catalogs of various firms in Scarperia. The Maremmano is a horn tip model.

A native of Calabria, this knife by the blade and pointed straight but has a handle in the most typical style of Scarborough, has a seal consists of two rings round, similar to Fiorentino, although smaller. It is supposed to have been in the past a major reworking of the knives typical Calabrian by the craftsmen of Scarperia that as often happened then have been extensively used to their own tradition. Palmerino horn cattle PA2C20 two knives - knife

The production of Scarborough has not devoted much attention to penknives.
It was, however, made a template from the desk, which in the past was used to make the tip of the quill pens and pencils.
This sharpener Scarperia was always devoid of spring and could have from one to two blades; unmistakable the shape of the handle, in a single piece of horn.
In the catalogs of the early years of the twentieth century these items were listed as "sharpeners use Palmerini" which was actually the name of a renowned manufacturer of the nineteenth century.
Proposed model is at the tip of the horn two blades.

Rasolino in bovine RAC-20 - Knife

The name of this knife comes from the shape of the blade, reminiscent of the razor.
Had spread following the law Giolitti in 1908 which placed severe limitations to the port of sharp knives, and that favored the production of various models in a truncated tip.
  The Rasolino is distinguished by the slight curvature of the blade and back to the shape of the handle.

Arma nazionale del Nepal e dei suoi guerrieri Gurkha, si distingue per la sua lama ricurva affilata nel latoconcavo e per lo spostamento del peso verso la punta che consente fendenti molto efficaci. Le prime notizie certe su questo coltello risalgono al 1848. Un esemplare, datato 1871, è conservato nell'Archivio di Stato di Firenze, allegato agli atti di un processo a carico di un pregiudicato. Su di esso è ben visibile il marchio di un fabbricante di Scarperia, Gustavo Buffi, la forma della lama è quella con dorso angolato, mantenuta anche nel Novecento e presente nei cataloghi di varie ditte scarperiesi. Il Maremmano è un modello in punta di corno.

Traditional knife produced by master cutlers in Scarperia, place where, since 1300, the craftsmanship of Italian knives continues.
Typical Piedmont knife, in use since the early 19th century also in Liguria. Originally from the village of Vernante (Cuneo).

The 420 stainless steel blade can be scimitar or straight.
On the upper part of the heel there is always the characteristic appendix with the head of a nail which, by housing a socket in the handle, allows the blade to be held steady with the knifted thumb.
