Background Information on O-Ren's Sword:

Before gaining control of Tokyo's underworld, O-Ren Ishii received a sword made by Hattori Hanzo.

O-Ren's sword was used only twice. The first time was during the Yakuza boss council meeting, where O-Ren beheaded boss Tanaka for disrespecting her Chinese-American heritage, which she found offensive.

The second and last time was during her fight with Beatrix Kiddo. The lack of a handguard (tsuba) or handle covering classifies this sword as a shirasaya (白鞘), meaning 'white sheath.' Shirasaya is a Japanese blade in a wooden mount with saya (scabbard) and tsuka (hilt).

This particular sword is distinguished by its cherry blossom (sakura) design on the handle (tsuka). Sakura and cherry blossoms are tied to the Japanese cultural view of life's ephemeral nature, the transience of blooming seasons, exquisite beauty, volatility, mortality, graceful acceptance of fate and karma, nationalism, and militarism - traits characteristic of O-Ren. Shirasaya is a sword mounting style popular among Japanese nobility, possibly signifying O-Ren's status as the queen of the underworld in Japan.

Product Details.

Before initial use and after subsequent uses, hand wash with warm soapy water. Prolonged soaking is not recommended.  

Brush well, especially cavities, with butter or release spray (preferably one containing flour) before each use.

Do not use regular cooking spray.  

Fill the mold no more than 3/4 full to prevent overflow.  Metal utensils, abrasive sponges and abrasive cleaners should not be used on nonstick surfaces. N.B. Die casting, a technique by which Nordic Ware molds are made, may create slight irregularities on the surface of the mold that, under no circumstances, will alter the perfect functionality of the mold.

The chronicles of the Sassari Brigade during the First World War cite this knife among its soldiers' equipment.

We wanted to make a tribute by revisiting it according to our canons, without wanting to hurt any of the prestigious Sardinian artisans who still today pass on the tradition and wisdom of their ancestors. The dimensions and proportions are the original ones of a 10 cm blade, but the materials and technologies are those of our production. It has a blade with a lance-shaped profile, a flat grinding and a diamond-shaped geometry. It has got a lower guard branch to protect itself from incidental cuts, upper jumping to improve grip, concave fuller along the length of the blade and a generous thickness blade (6.30mm) the now famous Requiem, revisited in proportions and in some technical features. The first of a new line of multipurpose knives.

The blade is made in Böhler N690 steel with a hardness of 58 HRC and a chemical burnishing coating for the Black version. All other colors in production have got a blade with Stone Washed finishing. The handle is still in forprene. It is more assembled by the side screws but thanks to the shank in truncated cone-shaped stainless steel that is screwed to the bottom and goes to fit inside a special seat, which makes it solid. In this way the knife is well balanced. The sheath is minimalist; most of the fabric has been cut off; it has got a 2nd level retention system, remembering the style of the model it was inspired by.

The main shell is injection-molded in shockproof nylon. The secondary retention system is reversible for ambidextrous users. The blade is guided through the conception of the blade. To extract the blade, to pressure the trigger will be sufficient, thus releasing the safety that holds securely in the sheath. In the horizontal slits of the sheath of a system, which fixes the blade to avoid shaking noises when it is stored inside. The back side of the nylon sheath is M.O.L.L.E. compatible.

The textile part is reduced to its minimum and has got the classic two-button safety strap with a belt loop Extrema Ratio aims to reduce the size of the knife, but not saving on the structural strength and safety accessories.
