Laguiole en Aubrac

The Laguiole-en-Aubrac hand-crafted cutlery is one of the players in the restoration of the cutlery tradition -which had died over time- in the Aubrac plateau of the Aveyron department. The revival of local manufacturing while remaining faithful to its traditional practices was the common thread that led the company to create a forge and its workshops in the historic area of Laguiole. By combining know-how and creativity, Laguiole en Aubrac has become a brand that holds high the colours of French cutlery internationally.

The elegance of Laguiole’s original line allows Laguiole-en-Aubrac cutlers multiple variations. The variety and beauty of natural materials remain their main sources of inspiration. It also happens sometimes that the genius of men brings forth creations that revive the collective memory around mythical adventures such as those of the Concorde plane or the France liner. Laguiole en Aubrac guarantees artisanal manufacturing of its products in the historic area of Laguiole and they are attested by the LOG stamp (Laguiole Origine Garantie) engraved on the heel of the blade.

  2. Laguiole En Aubrac - Laguiole bovine horn tip 12cm - collection knife

Laguiole, which can be defined as the "capital" of the Aubrac, is a small town of about 900 inhabitants that became known all over the world for the traditional Laguiole knife.

The Laguiole knife, also known as a knife-corkscrew, loved by the best sommeliers in the world, is said to have evolved from the one used daily by the people of the region since the fourteenth century. It is said that they received it from their parents on the occasion of the First Communion, and used it with love for life as a friend, and as an "amulet".

The Laguiole knife refers to an older model called capuchadou, which the Aubrac breeders used every day since the fourteenth century. The farmers brought it with them, hung on their belts and used it to work wood, or to cut bread and cheese. It is said that, at the end of the working day, they put it on the ground, like a cross, to offer their evening prayer.

The current Laguiole knife, has its prototype in the one designed by Pierre-Jean Calmels, at the beginning of the nineteenth century. At the time, many Catalans lived in this region, used for deforestation or other jobs. They used a clasp knife, a curved blade called a navaja, and Calmels created a beautiful and functional instrument, fusing the traditional navaja and Laguiole knife, heir to the capuchadou. Still today, keeping the tradition, each Laguiole En Aubrac knife is handcrafted by Laguiole's artisans.

  3. Laguiole En Aubrac - Fidelis Ebène - regional knife

The "Fidelis" was born from the desire to pay homage to the "medieval Larzac", with its old Templar villages and legends.
It is a knife that symbolizes the roughness of this land, the rusticity of its vegetation and its climate, but also the nobility of women and men who have worked, modeled, guarded and inserted into this object a soul.
Made in Millau, in the heart of Aveyron, in the cutlery workshops "L'ame du Causse", it is worked with noble materials, such as the precious wood of ebony that the Knights Templars have brought back to their return. Its "sage leaf" blade, made of 12C27 steel, renowned for its cutting quality and ease of maintenance, will be a guarantee of longevity. The "Fidelis" will be your ideal companion to share moments of everyday life full of history.

  33. Laguiole en Aubrac - Sommelier Corkscrew in Mammoth Ivory
