La spada dei Ringwraiths fu costruita dagli armaioli della terra oscura di Mordor, sotto il comando del loro malvagio maestro Sauron.

Questa enorme spada presenta dettagli, elsa e pomolo in metallo, consumate e rovinate dalle battaglie, ed impugnatura rivestita in vera pelle. United Cutlery UC1424 LOTR™ Museum Collection Sting™ in edizione numerata a tiratura limitata

Questa replica finemente dettagliata è la versione "Museum Collection" di United che si differenzia per l'aspetto "vissuto" di lama, guardia e pomolo; per i materiali utilizzati di altissimo livello e per la lama realizzata in acciaio al carbonio, come una vera spada da utilizzo concreto. La spada ha pesi e bilanciature ottimali per essere brandita.

Benché per gli standard di uomini ed elfi sia da considerarsi una sorta di daga, per un Hobbit si può considerare una spada a tutti gli effetti. Bilbo diede Pungolo a Frodo, poco prima della partenza della Compagnia dell'Anello da Gran Burrone. Dopo la sconfitta di Sauron alla fine della Terza Era, Frodo la donò a Samvise Gamgee.

Il nome "Pungolo" venne dato alla spada da Bilbo dopo il suo combattimento coi Ragni Giganti di Bosco Atro, nelle prime versioni però il nome dato alla spada è "pungiglione".

Come tutte le antiche lame elfiche, Pungolo risplende magicamente di una luce azzurrina in caso di presenza di Orchi nelle vicinanze; Gollum, che detesta tutto ciò che è stato fatto dagli Elfi (a causa dell'intrinseca carica di purezza che gli oggetti elfici assorbono dai loro creatori), ha paura di Pungolo. Questo ha aiutato Bilbo nel suo confronto con Gollum sotto la montagna ne Lo Hobbit e, successivamente, anche Frodo grazie al terrore che la lama ispirava a Gollum, è riuscito a domarlo (temporaneamente) ne Il Signore degli Anelli. Pungolo ha la capacità di tagliare facilmente le tele di ragno visto che con ogni probabilità era stato creato proprio per questa necessità da suoi creatori di Gondolin, a quel tempo infatti vi erano numerosi ragni per i boschi lì attorno e risultava quindi più comodo avere uno spadino o pugnale da usare piuttosto che una grande spada. Questa lama è di assoluto terrore per Shelob e tutti i ragni in generale cresciuti nell'oscurità.

Under the command of Gandalf the WhiteTM the men of Gondor defended Minas Tirith, the Kingdom of Gondor, from within the city walls against the siege of Sauron. Greatly outnumbered by Sauron´s armies, the Gondorian infantry did not stand a chance in open war. Miraculously, with the use of their trebuchets and archers, the Gondorian army held their own until the nine Nazgûl, upon their fell beasts, swooped in destroying the trebuchets and forcing men to flee their posts. This distraction allowed the trolls to push their siege towers in, unleashing scores of orcs onto the walls of the city, and allowing the release of Mordor´s greatest weapon - Grond, a 150 foot iron battering ram shaped like a wolf. The gates of the city would not hold, driving the Gondorians back into the third level of the city. 

With much of the lower levels of Gondor in flames, it seemed as if it was on the verge of a catastrophic defeat, until suddenly the Riders of the Rohirrim appeared on the horizon, closing in and driving the armies of Mordor away from the city, thus ending the siege upon Gondor and entering into the Battle of the Pelennor fields. Although the Gondorians were technologically advanced compared to most races of Middle-earth, the design of the helm carries details reminiscent of Numenor. The barbut style helm - one piece, shoulder-length, and open-faced - finished off the suit of steel plate armor that a Gondorian infantryman wore. The smooth finish and flared bottom of the helm offered better neck protection, allowing blows to be deflected away from the body. Adorned on the sides of the helm are seabird wings, a familiar Gondorian motif.

Tauriel is a Silvan Elf and daughter of Mirkwood. Her parents were killed by orcs when she was younger and it is hinted that Thranduil looked after her since then. She is a very young elf, around the age of 600, and is insightful into the changing nature of Middle Earth, recognizing the growing evils of the world and the need to eradicate them rather than withdraw into the safety of the elven fortress.

A favorite of King Thranduil and Captain of his Woodland Elven Guard, Tauriel is highly effective and lethal in combat, and primarily employs a reflex bow and two daggers in battle. She is also shown to possess medical knowledge, being able to treat wounds from poisoned weapons. As a native of the woodland realm, she is also a capable tree-climber and an adept leader.

Glamdring era la spada forgiata per il Sire Elfico Turgon, della stirpe dei Noldor, nella Prima Era.
Andò smarrita per migliaia di anni, finché non venne rinvenuta da Gandalf (insieme a Pungolo e Orcrist) nella tana dei Troll ne Lo Hobbit, il quale la tenne per sé, e continuò a portarla lungo tutti gli eventi della trilogia de Il Signore Degli Anelli.

Non si sa con certezza che fine abbia fatto l'arma dopo le vicende raccontate dalla trilogia; ci sono due teorie principali: secondo la prima, Gandalf la portò con sé nelle Terre Imperiture alla fine della Terza Era, mentre per la seconda sarebbe stata posta prima fra i cimeli in retaggio degli Elfi del Bosco Atro, per passare poi in custodia ad Aragorn che la pose nei sotterranei dove è conservato il tesoro di Minas Tirith.

Glamdring viene tradotto "Battinemici", e gli Orchi ne Lo Hobbit la chiamano spregiativamente "Martello".

Glamdring, insieme alla gemella Orcrist, vengono descritte ne Lo Hobbit come corredate da splendidi foderi e con l'impugnatura riccamente decorata da gioielli. Nei Racconti incompiuti, una delle note alla storia di Tuor recita che la spada di Turgon era "...bianca ed oro...in un fodero d'avorio..." benché Glamdring non sia menzionata, è ragionevole presumere che sia proprio essa la spada descritta.
Come molte altre spade elfiche, la lama era formata a guisa di foglia lanceolata; incastonata nella guardia c'era una piccola pietra grezza blu.
