The Römertopf was introduced in April 1967 by the ceramics company Eduard Bay GmbH as an absolute innovation at the Hanover Fair, at that time the leading consumer goods fair in Germany. In 1997, the RÖMERTOPF® brand was taken over by managing partner Otto Gatzke and incorporated into RÖMERTOPF® Keramik GmbH & Co. KG. Brand and company were merged by Otto Gatzke. Since July 2017, Frank Gentejohann has been managing director of the company, which today employs 66 people at its headquarters in Ransbach-Baumbach and is experiencing strong growth. Through investments in 2020 in new ovens, optimized technology and the move to a larger production hall, the capacity of the manufactory could be significantly expanded. At the same time, in order to accommodate further growth, some products with the know-how and high quality standards of the Römertopf brand are being produced by certified partners in other European countries. Since the 1970s, over 50 million Römertopf roasters have been sold - in purely mathematical terms, there could therefore be a Römertopf in every one of the 40 million German households. The best-selling models are the roasters in the classic Römertopf design and the Brick, developed in 2018 in cooperation with Bricknic. The range now consists of six sections, which are identified by a new packaging system with a color scheme. This makes it easy for customers to find their way around the diverse Römertopf range and find a suitable product for every area of application in the kitchen.
