  7. Fallkniven - Taiga Hunter knife - TH - SanMai CoS Steel - thermorun - knife

The taiga knives are distinctive hunting and all-round knives for the demanding user. A strong blade in laminated cobalt steel does not only mean a stable function, you notice quite quickly that the edge holds the sharpness really well without being brittle. The reason is the fine, well heat treated and tempered steel but also the convex shaped edge that is not only strong but also wood-sharp. The ergonomic shape of the handle provides a secure grip regardless of weather and wind.

If you look at function and most value for money, the rubber-handle Taiga blades should be preferred. Regardless of the weather and wind, the rubber handle gives a really good grip and when it comes to the steel properties they are of course as good as the knives with wooden handles.

  8. Fallkniven - Taiga knife SK2L - SanMai CoS Steel - ironwood - knife

As shown in the design, TH1 is a handmade knife with a handle in the very exclusive desert ironwood (lat. Olneya tesota). This species is not listed in CITES Annexes or the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species and is therefore legal to use. Like all natural materials, it varies in texture and color, making each knife an individual creation. A beautifully veined pattern may look attractive but a straight, patterned handle is actually stronger. Desert ironwood, which grows in the southwestern United States, has a somewhat peculiar quality – it is heavier than water, its density is 1.2 kg/dm³ which means it will sink. If you want to maintain or even increase the luster in the wood, treat it with log oil, furniture oil, bench oil or other type of wood oil containing linseed oil. The fact that the blade goes full width through the handle (so-called full tang blade) results in a very strong and reliable construction and gives a comfortable weight to the knife.

  11. Higonokami - Kanekoma knife - Black Medium Pocket Knife Japan

Charming knife used by the Japanese farmer.

As is typical for many agricultural implements, this Japanese knife is also extremely simple but the result of a centuries-old improvement that has found the difficult balance between form and function, and between cost and benefit.

The main feature is certainly the quality of the blade, in fact it uses a three-layer San Mai steel, of which the very hard one in the center.

It has a razor wire, as befits a tool created to cut and not just to be displayed in display cases.

Blade: San Mai carbon steel - Yasuki Steel Blue Paper Steel 62hrc in clad
    Handle: iron foil

It is one of Japan’s oldest and most famous heraldic symbols, often associated with the Tokugawa family, which ruled the country for over 250 years during the Edo period. This emblem represents nobility, protection, and stability, and is highly valued for its simple yet elegant form. On Mcusta knives, the Aoi engraving symbolizes tradition, refinement, and a connection to Japanese history.

The Rockstead HIGO II in titanium is not simply a high-end folding knife: it is the ultimate embodiment of Japanese philosophy applied to cutting, where every detail is pushed to the limits of perfection.

The minimalist, flawless titanium handle serves as a counterpoint to a ZDP-189 blade hardened to extreme hardness and finished with an almost unreal mirror polish. The result is not merely aesthetic: it is a living surface, capable of gliding through material with a smoothness and continuity that few knives in the world can offer.

Rockstead’s proprietary convex geometry does more than just cut: it separates, controls, and guides. It is a blade designed for those who recognize the difference between extreme sharpness and true long-term efficiency.

The HIGO II is an object for connoisseurs, where tolerances, treatments, and finishes are not mere technical specifications, but part of a precise language.

There is a special charm in objects born where steel carries memory. The Kanetsune Shinobi KB-209 embodies the essential aesthetics of Japanese knife-making, recalling the heritage of traditional blades: a refined 15-layer Damascus blade with a Blue Steel (Aogami) core, a handle inspired by traditional Japanese sword mountings featuring samegawa (ray/shark skin) with black cord wrapping, and an elegant Japanese-style wooden sheath. This fixed blade knife offers strong visual impact and is designed for light outdoor use, distinctive EDC carry, or as a collectible piece, combining presence, control, and time-honored materials.

Notes: KB-209 model from the Shinobi series; often listed as discontinued or difficult to source by various retailers.

A brief history of the brand
Kanetsune is a brand of Kitasho Co., Ltd., based in Seki, a Japanese city historically known as the “City of Cutlery.” The company officially dates back to 1964, with family roots in knife manufacturing and trade going back to the 1930s. The name Kanetsune is traditionally associated with a renowned master bladesmith of the Muromachi period, underlining its strong connection to Japanese forging heritage.

    Use and maintenance advice
The Blue Steel Damascus blade requires care: after use, it is recommended to wash by hand, dry immediately, and apply a light protective oil layer during storage or use in humid environments. Avoid dishwashers and prolonged contact with water or aggressive substances. The samegawa provides a natural, secure grip, enhancing handle stability even with wet hands.

    Why choose this knife
The Kanetsune Shinobi KB-209 is not just a knife, but an object with a strong identity: 15-layer Damascus Blue Steel for a distinctive cutting edge, a traditional handle with samegawa and cord for control and authenticity, and a Japanese-style wooden sheath for elegant presentation. An ideal choice for enthusiasts seeking a fixed blade with true Japanese character, beyond common Western designs.

    SHIN in Japanese means ‘trust’.

The SHIN is one of the largest folders in the Rockstead catalog and showcases all the typical and characteristic elements of the brand: aluminum handle with a pearl-radiant design, hardened anodization at 400 Vickers, and an insert of high-quality stingray leather (Samekawa).

This is a durable knife with strong cutting capabilities that maintains its edge for a long time. Even when used for rigorous cuts, the blade glides securely thanks to its particular sharpening.

The blade indeed has a HONZUKURI sharpening, convex on both sides, following the tradition of Japanese swords; this makes it both very sharp and sturdy, allowing it to cleanly cut a sheet of paper even after 1000 cuts through a very abrasive and resistant hemp rope.

A faithful companion for life, in which to place the utmost trust.

Characteristics of San Mai Maple: These are different types of metals combined to create a composition that contains and intensifies the resistance of the metals individually:

    - Mayor vida útil del filo
Thanks to the use of very high quality maples with high carbon content (VG10, CoS, Shiro) or sintered (SPG2), in the core of the plate (Core Steel), the heat, once templada, has a hardness and a Decidedly superior court performance. which were achieved with the use of traditional maple trees.

    - Mayor resilience
Built according to the principle of Japanese swords, the multi-headed maple is difficult to break thanks to the hardness of the central maple (Core Steel) and the elasticity of the maple used for the lateral covering (Stainless Steel).

    - Better resistance to corrosion
The maple used for the external caps (Stainless Maple) guarantees the house a high resistance to corrosion. The combination of the two or more materials used by Takefu Steel generates, at the galvanic level, a structure that improves resistance to corrosion, including in the steel.

    - Easy processing including after heat treatment
Although the maple is normally hardened after the tempering, the lateral maple used in the multi-head process does not become softer and allows for easy mechanicalization, cutting or soldering even after the heat treatment. For optimal health performance, cryogenic treatment is recommended.

    - Improved aesthetic result
The cuchillos made with multi-layered maple or with damask pattern are aesthetically elegant, refined and much appreciated by collectors around the world at the end of the manufacturing process.
