  1. Maserin - Champagne Sabre Bubinga Wood Handle - 2000SC12

Maserin - Champagne Sabre Bubinga Wood Handle

The saber is an original way to open bottles of champagne at all parties (birthdays, anniversaries, inaugurations, etc.).

Tradition of the Napoleonic period, the saber was used by French soldiers and officials to celebrate the numerous victories achieved on the war field; this weapon was used to "decapitate" the necks of bottles with a method called sabrage.

The blade for sabrage does not require sharpening because it hits the glass, in practice you slide the sword along the neck of the bottle and with a decisive gesture you hit the edge of the neck which pops away.

The breaking of the neck is clean and there are no residues of small splinters because they are shot away by the first jet of gas that comes out with a very high pressure (about 6 bar!).

  2. Due Cigni - Sommelier's saber in stainless steel PERLAGE - 2C2021

Due Cigni - PERLAGE Sommelier Saber - 2C2021

Sabrage is a special technique of opening champagne bottles with a saber, usually used ceremonially. The saber is slid down the body of the bottle toward the neck with a sharp blow. The force hitting the lip of the neck is enough to break the glass and cleanly separate the neck from the bottle collar, which, along with the cork, is shot away by the force of the gas contained in the wine.

From the magic of the saber, with its particular linearity and refined design embellishing the hilt, Perlage is a reference to the Napoleonic swords used by the Hussars, light cavalry of the Grande Armeè in the service of Napoleon.

From here, the tradition draws on their custom, upon victory achieved, of sabering bottles of champagne and toasting to life.

A gesture to brighten a celebration and pleasantly amaze your guests.

Maserin - Sabre Sommelier - Solid Paper MC

Whoever likes to reintroduce the ritual of the 'sabre' to open a bottle performs an ancient, ostentatious gesture with roots linked to the ceremonials of the Hussars.

The Champagne Sabre project has redesigned in a modern key an instrument that performs an ancient gesture using green materials in addition to steel: the handle is made of recyclable material and the pedestal is obtained by reusing demijohn corks.

The knurling between the handle and the blade improves grip and is used to break the paper covering the cap/neck of bottles.

    Technical characteristics:

Blade: AISI 420 stainless steel (satin finish)

    Total length: 410 mm

Handle: solid paper brown or black

  6. Laguiole en Aubrac - Sommelier sabre Lisse Origine Concorde - Sabrage

Laguiole en Aubrac - Sommelier sabre Lisse Origine Concorde - Sabrage

Sabrage is a special technique for opening champagne bottles with a sabre (sabre in French), usually used as a ceremonial gesture. The sabre is slid along the body of the bottle towards the neck with a sharp blow. The force of the blade striking the lip of the neck is sufficient to break the glass and separate the neck cleanly from the bottle collar which, together with the cork, is shot away by the force of the gas contained in the wine. When applied correctly, the technique is effective with any sparkling wine.

This practice became popular in Napoleonic France when the army visited the aristocratic domains belonging to the empire. The period was just after the French Revolution and the sabre was the weapon of choice for the army's light cavalry, the hussars. Given the numerous victories achieved by the army, there were many celebrations, during which it was customary to open the bottles by a convenient and easily available means. It seems that during one of these celebrations Napoleon himself said 'Champagne! In victory it is a merit; in defeat a necessity', thus encouraging its use and practice.

The parade saber from its scabbard slid gently on the neck of the bottle on the side of the coast and freed the cap with the glass that contained it . This type of opening is spectacular and very easy on the eye and can only be done with bottles containing sparkling , because it is thanks to the pressure that they exert wine inside the bottle neck glass that goes away easily from the cap. This much-appreciated ritual has been known since the Empire as it was very dear to Napoleon. It was common to celebrate a victory by breaking the necks of bottles with a sabre.

Do you like this tradition? We suggest you recreate it at home, thanks to this designer champagne sabre.

This accessory retains all its charm thanks to its oak handle and the oak base on which it is delivered. It will bring a touch of authenticity to your kitchen or living room, used as a collector's item. Want to make this exceptional gift even more unique? You can have the blade laser engraved!

This designer champagne sabre is 100% made in France, in the workshops of La Grande Coutellerie Claude Dozorme.

A bit of champagne history: It's funny how champagne was discovered by a French Benedictine monk named Pierre Perignon (1638-1715).

It was actually not a discovery but an accident. Pierre decided to save some wines that didn't really handle the fermentation process properly. After the winter, those improperly fermented wines began to react later in the spring and produce carbon dioxide trapped in the bottles. Most of the bottles exploded as the chemical reaction doubled the pressure. One morning, Pierre Perignon was surprised by this and found a bottle that resisted the pressure. That was the day of the dawn of a great and spectacular wine that captures everyone's taste. Champagne was named after a specific region in France when it was first discovered and marketed.

Today, you will find champagne whenever there are occasions and celebrations including, graduation day, wedding day, promotions, work or company anniversaries, holidays, thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's celebration or holiday, birthday and many more.

Champagne is also used to celebrate achievements or triumphs such as in sport and competition. One can see how runners enjoy and capture the moment of victory as they open the cork of a bottle of champagne. The champagne is served in a champagne flute, a special thin glass which is specially designed of champagne. The glass cone helps to contain the bubbles allowing you to enjoy your glass of champagne to the fullest. The older you get the better it is with wine but not with champagne. Remember that colder champagne tastes better but should not be served chilled.

The ideal drinking temperature is 7 degrees Celsius to 9 degrees Celsius. It is also important not to put ice cubes in the glass, otherwise the taste and flavour of the champagne will be affected.
