I designed the ATCF in 1986-87 inspired by my experience with military and security personnel in Central America and the United States. 

The ATCF was the first tactical knife to be fully assembled with screws instead of pins and rivets.
I invented the thumb disk to facilitate opening with both hands. This became a widely copied feature of the ATCF and is used on many other knives by manufacturers around the world.

The ATCF was the first pocket knife to use a checkering on the top which, along with the guard, provides protection and a firm grip. 

The ATCF is one of the most copied knife shapes in the knife world, and as I often like to proudly say, "The ATCF is the shape...that shaped the whole industry!"
