After more than 40 years of service in the U.S. Army Special Forces, Curtis Iovito and Mark Carey founded Spartan Blades LLC in North Carolina.

Curtis, who had been designing and crafting knives for his friends in the special forces for years, and Mark, who had always dealt with military and tactical gear during his time with the “Green Berets,” decided to combine their expertise and passion with the goal of building innovative and functional knives using the highest-quality materials and manufactured entirely in the United States.

The Spartan SHF is the result of a collaboration between Spartan Blades, Tu Lam of Ronin Tactics, and renowned knife designer Bill Harsey.

Designed as a high-performance folder, the SHF is intended for EDC, tactical, and field use, combining ruggedness, ergonomics, and precision craftsmanship.

The 3.95" blade in Chad Nichols Damascus stainless steel is the heart of the design, complemented by a construction made almost entirely of titanium: with the exception of the blade, pivot, and lock pin, every structural component is crafted from this material, ensuring an ideal balance between lightness and strength.

The ergonomic handle is designed for intensive use, with finger grooves and jimping that improve grip even in critical conditions. The internal anti-over-travel system protects the opening mechanism, while the reversible titanium clip allows for ambidextrous tip-up carry. The dual thumb studs, made immediately accessible by a milled ramp on the handle, allow for a quick, smooth, and intuitive opening.

Every detail of the SHF reflects Spartan Blades’ philosophy: to create reliable, functional tools built to last, without compromising on performance or quality.

The Long Gunner Damascus Edition adds a strong narrative and collectible dimension. The Damascus blade features unique and one-of-a-kind patterns, while the engraved titanium scales depict a sniper in an artistic style inspired by Japanese tradition, with symbolic references to the world of “long gunners.”

The involvement of Tu Lam, a U.S. Special Forces veteran and founder of Ronin Tactics, further strengthens the project’s connection to real-world operational culture. His experience with the Green Berets and his “modern samurai” philosophy help give the SHF a dimension that goes beyond the tool itself: a modern interpretation of discipline, resilience, and tactical mindset.

The result is a knife that combines engineering, operational experience, and cultural identity: not only a cutting tool of the highest caliber, but also a tribute to contemporary military tradition and the figure of the professional who operates in the shadows.
