Leif is believed to have been born around 970, second son of Erik the Red (Eiríkr Rauði), a Norwegian, son of Thorvald Asvaldsson, great grandson of Naddoddr, the discoverer of Iceland. His mother was Þjoðhildur. His father had founded two Viking colonies, the Western Settlement and the Eastern Settlement, in Greenland, a land to which he himself had given its name.

High carbon steel blade, robust and well white. The pommel and guard are richly carved and decorated with sea dragons and intertwined knots. Although iron was a tougher material than bronze it would frequently bend. Damascus, or pattern welded steel, was used to make the blade strong enough to withstand the rigors of combat. Early Viking swords were forged from layers of iron interwoven with strands of steel to produce a very tough sword. This sword is based on an original circa 850-900 AD sword discovered in Finland. The Damascus Viking Sword is made of high carbon Damascus steel. The blade is polished with the fuller acid etched to bring out the beautiful Damascus pattern. The pommel and crossguard are made of solid steel and the grip is leather wrapped wood. Includes a matching wood scabbard with a black leather covering and steel mounts. A very nice example of a true Viking sword.
