Bud Nealy is universally recognized as one of the best knifemakers in the world. He is also known as the inventor of the MCS (Multi Concealment Sheath) system that allows the knife to be placed securely in any type of position. The Ti-Lock mechanism was originally designed to isolate the locking mechanism from the handle of the knife so that it can offer greater freedom of design. Carl Schlieper Stahlwarenfabrik & Export was originally a trading company founded between 1754 and 1798 in Remscheid in Germany. Products included freehand knives, tools and razors. A branch of the company in Solingen was engaged in the production of knives including slipjoint, automatic knives, daggers, machetes, bowie, razors and kitchen knives. Over the years various brands and 22 patents held by the company have been created and thousands of pieces sold worldwide. Carl Schlieper was liquidated for bankruptcy in 1993. The production of the brand was subsequently acquired by Freidrich Olbertz in Solingen.

Knife withdrawn from private collection, dates from the very first production in 1984 (in fact, it does not indicate the patent engravings, affixed in 1985 and does not indicate the production date, affixed only from 1986). Globally in good condition, it has marks on the blade and handle due to the normal passage of time and the very aggressive scabbard which, containing a spring-loaded metal foil, irreparably scratches the blade both in insertion and extraction - It still has the factory sharpening and comes with a compass in the tang and two harpoons already engaged on the guard branch; lacking instead the box and additional accessories - Checked and certified by our in-house laboratory.

Notes: The feature, patented, is the presence of two removable screw-on harpoons/hooks. The function of these is simple anchorage. In fact, this knife can be used as a throwing hook by attaching a rope to the ring on the pommel. The manufacturer guarantees a harpoon hold of up to 600 pounds. The Navy Seals, specifically, had requested a knife that could be used underwater in order to anchor the vehicles to an underwater attachment point, and that is the reason for the total steel construction.
