Nontron Traditional Pocket Knife - Chaperon Model
This traditional pocket knife from Nontron is one of our best-sellers, a true symbol of the craftsmanship of COUTELLERIE NONTRONNAISE. The Chaperon model helped make Nontron's iconic French traditional knife famous. It features a turned brass ferrule, a hoof handle made of burnt boxwood, and a polished finish, giving this knife an elegant and refined appearance.

Nontron is a small commune located in the Dordogne department in southwestern France that has a long tradition in the production of handcrafted knives. Its history related to knife making goes back centuries, and even today the town is famous for its high-quality handcrafted knives. The Nontron knife is a true icon of French tradition, prized for both its aesthetics and functionality.

Drop-point hunting knife, excellent for skinning and as a light all-around utility. The handle construction recalls a design from the 1930s. Thumb grooves and the upper part of the guard are shaped for thumb placement. The model features multiple customizations compared to the standard model, such as the single brass guard and pommel, handle in Deer wood and leather rings, and oiled leather sheath.

FRANCO VERNAZZA is a hobbyist knifemaker and by passion a member of A.C.H.I. (Associazione Coltellinai Hobbisti Italiani), this does not take away from his excellent knifemaking skills. He himself says he makes blades for passion, knives that do the job of cutting, everything else is a detail. The workmanship, all unique because he doesn't use jigs, is really good, completely Hand Made in Italy.

This Pattada constitutes the now historical interpretation of the Sardinian knife made by Consiglio. The handle formed by two halves fixed with a row of rivets and the absence of a real spring are typical of the original model, but the line, the shape of the surfaces, the use of ram's horn are affected by the Scarperian tradition. Consigli has long linked its business to supplies for Sardinia, so much so that their Pattada have now become "Sardinian by adoption".
