The SOG Winder II Heavy Duty Folding Knife (model SOG00009) exemplifies high quality and precision in knife making. In some areas of central and southern Italy, it was customary to give knives as engagement or wedding gifts, assigning the knife the task of sanctioning the love bond.

There was a strong identification between man and knife: the lover who gave such a gift to the woman symbolically offered himself, while the gift given to the man could be interpreted as an exhortation to virile valor.

Some specimens of this historical knife also served as protection against the evil eye, featuring the characteristic “dice eyes” on the handle, while the blades were traditionally engraved with decorative and symbolic elements.

The love knives were also indicative of the social class of the family: less wealthy couples, unable to afford very elaborate knives, sanctioned their love with simpler, less worked, and less expensive objects, but identical in values and meanings.

The brand Artigiano Scarperia was established in 2007 by two expert knife makers, Fabio Gasparrini and Alessandro Conti. Drawing inspiration from ancient art, they create refined cutlery for the kitchen and table, assortments of personal care items and office supplies, as well as various objects in horn and wood. All products are handcrafted, using traditional techniques without the use of machinery.

For this reason, any variations in material and workmanship are not considered flaws, but distinctive features of a unique product, handcrafted and of high quality.

Rare knife produced by the Japanese Al-Mar in the late 80s and early 90s, now out of production and no longer available. Knife withdrawn from private collection and out of production - Knife slightly used, with small shallow marks on the left side of the blade, original leather sheath never used and never worn, including box (not original). The particular situation created in the early years of the 1914/18 war, now mired in increasingly complex and protected trenches and fortifications, favored the formation of men who, little by little, specialized in the coup.

Our assault units, the Arditi, had their dagger. It was obtained from the pieces cut away by the long blades of the Vetterli 1870 bayonets, which in the narrow trenches, in the corridors, between the reticulars were only an obstacle. It was certainly a rustic weapon, of recovery, not too beautiful but certainly inexpensive, light, not cumbersome and in expert hands also effective.

Today, on the occasion of the centenary, we recall this important page of Italian military history with a limited celebratory series in only 100 numbered copies. This version has a satin blade and a walnut wood handle and is sold with a wooden box and leather sheath.

This slender-shaped knife with a curved handle derives from ancient models, used by the shepherds of Abruzzo.
Its adoption in the repertoire of knives manufactured in Scarperia (where the particular fold of the handle earned it the name of "hunchback") dates back to the end of the nineteenth century and took place without obvious changes compared to the original type, equipped with a simple spring and one piece bovine horn handle.
