For almost a decade, Cold Steel® offered a wicked-looking little boot knife called the Culloden®. It was based on the traditional Scottish 'black knife' or 'Skean Dhu' as it is more commonly called in Gaelic, the ancient language of Scotland.

The Caledonian Edge™ features a number of modern variations and refinements over its predecessor. The blade is made of a virtually unbreakable San Mai III® construction and, like the original Skean Dhu, features a thin, sharp point, as sharp as the proverbial needle. 

The traditional tang seen on the Skean Dhu of yesteryear has been retained and provides an aggressive, non-slip platform for the thumb and forefinger, allowing for better control when using the blade to cut or pierce.

We know that many of our customers are increasingly concerned about the weight and bulk of their EDC (every day carry) knife as space in their pockets is always very limited. That's why we focused on making a feather-light (90g.) and ultra-thin (8.8 mm thick) knife that can be carried 24/7 while still leaving pocket space for other essential accessories.

What we did not do, however, in our attempt to create a super EDC knife was to skimp on workmanship and materials. That's why all the blades in the Air Lite series feature impeccable workmanship and Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel, famous for its ability to hold an edge; the handles, on the other hand, are laser-cut from genuine G-10.

The Cold Steel SRK (Survival Rescue Knife) has been a Cold Steel pride for over 25 years. Favorite knife for many military operators, still supplied to Navy SEALs today during BUDS training.

It is therefore not surprising that Cold Steel, when commissioned in-house designer Andrew Demko to develop a high-end tactical folding knife for military applications, was inspired by the legendary SRK!
