This slender-shaped knife with a curved handle derives from ancient models used by the shepherds of Abruzzo. The first certain information on this knife dates back to 1848. A specimen, dated 1871, is kept in the State Archives of Florence, attached to the documents of a trial against a convicted person. The mark of a Scarperia manufacturer, Gustavo Buffi, is clearly visible on it, the shape of the blade is that with an angled back, also maintained in the twentieth century and present in the catalogs of various firms in Scarperia. The Maremmano is a horn tip model.
