The M1A1 model is Extrema Ratio's personal interpretation, created to pay homage to the historic folding knife used by the Italian Army.

During World War II, the original knife was part of the British Army's equipment. At the end of the war, thanks to the “Marshall Plan” for European recovery, the Italian Army received some of the weapons and equipment supplied to the Allies during the war, including this multifunctional tool. It was later reproduced in Italy in three modified versions.

Extrema Ratio, to bid farewell to this historic and renowned knife, presents a final exclusive version, limited to only 130 pieces.

This allows a greater amount of chromium to be kept in solid solution, improving corrosion resistance. In addition, nitrogen contributes to the hardness and stability of the structure, giving these steels a good balance between hardness, toughness, and corrosion resistance. Compared to traditional martensitic steels, nitrogen steels can therefore offer a better combination of mechanical properties and resistance to chemicals, while maintaining good workability and sharpenability characteristics.

I designed the ATCF in 1986-87 inspired by my experience with military and security personnel in Central America and the United States. I wanted to create a unique knife that was lightweight yet sturdy, easily accessible and conveniently carried on various garments, completely corrosion-proof, ambidextrous to open and close, and usable with one hand.

The ATCF was the first tactical knife to be fully assembled with screws instead of pins and rivets.
I invented the thumb disk to facilitate opening with both hands. This became a widely copied feature of the ATCF and is used on many other knives by manufacturers around the world.

The ATCF was the first pocket knife to use a knurl on the top of the blade that matches the finger guard at the base of the handle when the blade is closed. The knurl and guard provide protection and a firm grip when the knife is in use. The original ATCF already used a pocket clip to be accessible in various body positions. 

The ATCF is one of the most copied knife shapes in the knife world, and as I often like to proudly say, “The ATCF is the shape...that shaped the whole industry!”

The KS model represents a fusion of experience and innovation. It takes its name from a specialization and training course of the Italian Army, essential for access to the Folgore paratrooper brigade. This course, personally tackled by its creator, proved to be a 10-week, intense and challenging adventure, both physically and mentally.

With great pride, the KS was the first model produced by the designer. Thinking back to those decisive moments, he asked himself what knife he would like to have by his side to face the difficulties of those weeks in the woods. The answer was clear: a compact, lightweight blade with a drop point profile designed to facilitate various types of work. The comfortable and versatile handle was designed to provide a secure grip even with the English technique. From this idea, the KS was born.
