  2. ExtremaRatio - Misericordia Desert - single edge fixed blade knife - Made in Italy

Extrema Ratio Misericordia Desert, which preserves intact all the features of the famous Misericordia model adopted by the 4th Alpine Parachute Regiment, derives from the commemorative dagger made on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the 4th Alpine Regiment and the 70th since the founding of the Alpine Paratroopers.

It is a tactical-type fixed-blade knife designed for those instances when the knife must be extremely light and compact. The new desert coloring also makes this model available in a shade in line with the most common needs of modern operational departments.

The blade is milled from Böhler N690 steel, hardened to 58 HRC for the best balance of edge retention and strength, is 118 mm long, 4mm thick, and has a flat edge. The weight of the knife is just 87g. The profile is a spear point type, with a full-length shank that makes it even lighter and with a ¾-length false counterblade. The finish is a stone washed type.

The knife's polymer handle features classic Extrema Ratio shells that make for a more secure grip and is attached to the tang by a through-screw. On the rear end the handle flows connecting with a wide ring equipped with a "skull crusher" appendage: a ring that allows the use of martial arts techniques and ensures the hand a very solid grip. In this version the handle is in Desert coloring.

Since this is a knife designed for professional use, much attention has been paid to ease of carrying, accessibility and extraction in case of need. The knife is secured to the sheath by a quick-release safety that can be easily reversed for left-handed use. The sheath is also in Desert coloring, made of high-strength Nylon, very versatile and equipped with 2 adjustable loops that allow it to be attached to M.O.L.L.E systems, facilitating quick extraction in various tactical scenarios.

  3. ExtremaRatio - S-Thil Stone Washed - knife

Extrema Ratio S-THIL STONE WASHED is a tactical backup knife with monolithic construction machined from a single piece of 5 mm thick BOHLER N690 steel, developed in collaboration with Thilo designer Arnd Schiller.

The blade, a spear point type, is hardened to 58 HRC in order to achieve the best balance of edge retention and strength, features a false counterbore at the top that enhances penetration and point work characteristics, and has a full-length groove (fuller) that flows elegantly from the blade to the handle. The blade is milled integrally to the knife to enhance its compactness and lightness, maintaining a minimal thickness while still having a profile reminiscent of the classic Extrema Ratio handle.

That profile goes to form two small guards and a comfortable thumb rest to prevent the hand from slipping towards the blade. On the end are a skull crusher with a diamond-shaped tip and a slot that allows a wrist strap to be attached to the knife or the handle to be fitted with paracord coiling.

The molded nylon sheath is designed to be extremely flat with very small side dimensions to make it as compact as possible. The design of the knife makes it ambidextrous, allowing it to be inserted into the sheath with the blade cutting edge to the right or left. The double retention system integral to the sheath consists of four pressure elements that work only two at a time, depending on right/left-handed use, while the nylon textile part has a button that allows the knife to be secured to the sheath.

The end of the sheath has a hole to expel liquids or debris inside. The ability to attach belt clip, ulticlip, malice clip makes it extremely versatile. You can also attach the sheath to the M.O.L.L.E. system by braiding the paracord.

  4. ExtremaRatio - K1 Dobermann knife - XXV Anniversary - Limited Edition

This special edition in 250 pieces, proposed on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the brand, maintains the shape of the original, but with materials and finishes corresponding to the current production.

The K1 is equipped with a modified spear point profile blade, characterized by a tip that combines the 40° "tanto" profile with the more traditional European one, creating a sharp but very solid hybrid which, with the false false edge, makes it particularly effective in jab. The bevel is high, allowing for a very effective cutting angle.

The blade is immediately recognizable by the fenestration at the heel, which allows for considerable lightening without compromising its strength. It is made of Böhler N690 steel, with heat treatments that bring its hardness to 58 HRC for the best combination of edge hold and resistance. The finish is satin with flat grinding.

The handle, in anodized Anticorodal alloy, compared to the original presents the lightening on the sides that make the Extrema Ratio knives immediately distinguishable, but maintains the arched shape and the lateral "bellies" of the K1, offering an excellent grip both in the "saber" than in the "reverse" grip.

The terminal part of the handle curves to form a sort of hook which allows particularly easy and rapid extraction from the scabbard, while the tang protrudes from it with a triangular cusp which acts as a glass breaker with a slot which allows the knife to be equipped of lasso.

The leather scabbard faithfully reproduces the original while maintaining both the qualities of ease and speed of extraction. The carry can take place in an upside-down axillary position, horizontally on the belt or tactically on the thigh.

The K1 equipment is completed with a polypropylene case ‌, complete leather sheath and underarm shoulder strap.

  5. ExtremaRatio - Satre - N690 Stone Washed - Neck Knife

Satre is a fixed blade knife of small dimensions, light and extremely resistant. Given its characteristics, it can be used in a wide range of disciplines and uses ranging from survival activities, bushcraft or as an element of an EDC (Every Day Carry) kit.

It has been designed in collaboration with Daniele Dal Canto, Master Advanced F.I.S.S. (Federazione italiana survival sportivo e sperimentale) instructor.

In Neck Knife mode, through the use of a 550 paracord lanyard, it is possible to hold it around the neck keeping the knife vertical with the handle facing downwards. The metal eyelets on the sheath, made of pre-shaped Kydex, allow the application of both the lanyard and the accessory holder.

The full-tang skeleton structure, allows to personalize the knife using the Paracord as a coating for the handle.

The Stone Washed version uses Böhler N690 heat treated to 58 HRC. This material is chosen for its ability to resist oxidation, the durability of the edge and above all the reliability it has shown over the years.

It has a blade with a lance-shaped profile, a flat grinding and a diamond-shaped geometry. It has got a lower guard branch to protect itself from incidental cuts, upper jumping to improve grip, concave fuller along the length of the blade and a generous thickness blade (6.30mm) the now famous Requiem, revisited in proportions and in some technical features. The first of a new line of multipurpose knives.

The blade is made in Böhler N690 steel with a hardness of 58 HRC and a chemical burnishing coating for the Black version. All other colors in production have got a blade with Stone Washed finishing. The handle is still in forprene. It is more assembled by the side screws but thanks to the shank in truncated cone-shaped stainless steel that is screwed to the bottom and goes to fit inside a special seat, which makes it solid. Born from the revisitation of the 39-09 model, the Nimbus was developed and chosen by the 183rd "Nembo" Paratrooper Regiment as a commemorative knife of the events of Case Grizzano which on 19 April 1945 saw the Nembo paratroopers engaged against the paratroopers of a German division . The clashes raged for 12 hours and were often resolved by hand-to-hand combat with the white weapon. A few days after the end of the Second World War one third of the battalion's men remained on the field, but their sacrifice led to the conquest of the battle. The knife in addition to wanting to commemorate an important event of our Armed Forces is the result of a development that has been carefully studied also in the technical aspects, so as to make it suitable for a concrete operational use.

Particular attention has been paid to taking care of the dimensions, the shape and the search for solutions such as the kydex sheath, which is designed to make the knife an instrument capable of adapting to the most complex requirements of the port.

The light and compact blade meets the demands of a modern tactical knife today.

  30. ExtremaRatio - N.K.1 Neck Knife - SanMai V-TOKU2 - Limited Edition - NK1 - Knife

Japanese steel merges with Italian excellence

For this 2021 collaboration, exclusive to Coltelleria Collini, we have decided to propose a series of best sellers produced by Extrema Ratio. Knives made with the famous San Mai steel produced by the Japanese Takefu Steel. Specifically we have used the carbonaceous V-Toku2 at 62/63HRC for the central plate and the stainless SUS410 for the two external plates, in order to guarantee a very high cutting capacity, penetration and edge holding together with an easy resharpening and maintenance but at the same time the blade has a remarkable resistance to corrosion and an important increase of resilience given by the type of extreme steel and the laminated structure.

Intended Use: Neck Knife / Collector's Knife

    Type of production: Industrial
    Country of Production: Italy
Blade / Handle: Full, laminated Japanese steel (San Mai) with V-Toku2 (carbonaceous) cutting edge at 62/63HRC and SUS410 (stainless steel) outer cheeks
    Blade finish: Satin finish
    Blade length: 40mm.
    Blade thickness: 3mm.
    Total length: 129mm.
    Weight: 55g.
    Sheath: Kydex, for neck.
Packaging: Cardboard box with Extrema Ratio logos.
Notes: Numbered edition - cardboard box with Extremaratio logos and certificate - the central core of the blade and handle is made of carbon steel so it is recommended to wash/dry the knife very well after each use and protect the steel, during storage, with a light surface of lubricant to avoid rust and oxidation.

As in the ancient swords of the Japanese Samurai.

The rolled steel - imported in Italy by Collini Steel directly from the Japanese Takefu Steel - is based on the ancient Japanese tradition in the creation of the famous Samurai swords. As early as 1100, expert Japanese blacksmiths combined different materials to give Katana swords incredible cutting capabilities combined with previously unknown strength and flexibility. It is thanks to this revolutionary construction technique that the Samurai swords have been preserved until our days becoming one of the most fascinating objects made by man. Following this tradition applied to modern metallurgy, we are now able to have technologically advanced steels already tested and used in cutlery also by famous brands such as Fallkniven, Cold Steel, Mcusta, Kai, Sog, Zwilling, Rockstead, etc.

Characteristics of San Mai steel: It is made of different types of metals alloyed together to create a composite that contains and intensifies the strengths of the metals individually taken:

    - Longer cutting edge life
thanks to the use of high quality steels with a high carbon content (VG10, CoS, Shiro) or sintered (SPG2), in the core steel, the blade, once hardened, reaches hardness and cutting performance decidedly superior to those achieved with the use of traditional steels.

    - Greater resilience
Built on the principle of Japanese swords, the multilayer steel is difficult to break thanks to the toughness of the central steel (Core Steel) and the elasticity of the steel used for the lateral coating (Stainless Steel).

    - Improved corrosion resistance
The steel used for the outer layers (Stainless Steel) gives the blade a high resistance to corrosion. The combination of the two or more materials used by Takefu Steel generates, at a galvanic level, a structure that improves corrosion resistance even on the edge.

    - Easy machining even after heat treatment
Although steel normally becomes harder after hardening, the lateral steel used in multilayer machining does not lose its softness and allows easy machining, drilling or welding even after heat treatment. For optimum blade performance, cryogenic treatment is recommended.

    - Improved aesthetic performance
Knives made of multi-state steel or damask pattern at the end of the processing are aesthetically elegant, refined and highly appreciated by collectors all over the world.

For this 2020 collaboration, exclusive of Collini Cutlery, we have decided to propose a series of best sellers produced by Extrema Ratio. although steel normally becomes harder after quenching, the lateral steel used in multilayer processing does not lose its softness and allows easy processing, drilling or welding even after heat treatment. For an optimal performance of the blade, cryogenic treatment is recommended.

    - Improvement of the aesthetic result
The knives made with multi-state steel or with a damask pattern at the end of the processing are aesthetically elegant, refined and highly appreciated by collectors all over the world.

  33. ExtremaRatio - Col Moschin Satin knife in San Mai V-TOKU2 - Limited Edition - knife

Japanese steel blends with Italian excellence

For this 2020 collaboration, exclusive of Collini Cutlery, we have decided to propose a series of best sellers produced by Extrema Ratio. Knives made with the famous San Mai steel produced by the Japanese Takefu Steel. Specifically, we used V-Toku2 carbonaceous at 62 / 63HRC for the central plate and SUS410 stainless steel for the two external plates, in order to guarantee a very high cutting capacity, penetration and sealing of the wire together with an ease of re-sharpening. and maintenance but at the same time the blade has a remarkable resistance to corrosion and an important increase in resilience given by the type of external steel and by the laminated structure.

Col Moschin model: for this First Production Run a run of 11 pieces was produced, numbered from 1 to 11.

Special purpose cutting knife, specially developed for the 9th Col Moschin Parachute Assault Regiment, elite unit of the Folgore brigade.

    Use: tactical, sports, hiking, collection

Blade: integral, in laminated Japanese steel (San Mai) with V-Toku2 (carbonaceous) cutting edge at 62 / 63HRC and external SUS410 (stainless steel) scales
    Handle: forprene
    Blade length: 160mm.
    Blade thickness: 6.5mm.
    Total length: 290mm.
Balance: set back to 0.5cm. from the guard branch
    Weight: 265g.
Sheath: modular tactical, from thigh or belt, in Nylon

As in the ancient Japanese Samurai swords.

Rolled steel - imported into Italy by Collini Steel directly from Japanese Takefu Steel - is based on the ancient Japanese tradition in the creation of the famous Samurai swords. In fact, as early as 1100 the expert Japanese blacksmiths combined different materials together to give the Katana swords incredible cutting capabilities combined with a resistance and flexibility previously unknown. It is thanks to this revolutionary construction technique that Samurai swords have been preserved to this day, becoming one of the most fascinating objects made by man. Following this tradition applied to modern metallurgy, today we are able to have technologically advanced steels already tested and used in cutlery also by famous brands such as Fallkniven, Cold Steel, Mcusta, Kai, Sog, Zwilling, Rockstead, etc.

Characteristics of San Mai steel: These are different types of metals bonded together to create a composite that encloses and intensifies the strengths of the metals individually taken:

    - Longer tool life
thanks to the use of very high quality steels with high carbon content (VG10, CoS, Shiro) or sintered (SPG2), in the heart of the sheet (Core Steel), the blade, once hardened, achieves decidedly hardness and cutting performance higher than those achieved with the use of traditional steels.

    - Greater resilience
built with the principle of Japanese swords, multilayer steel is difficult to break thanks to the toughness of the central steel (Core Steel) and the elasticity of the steel used for the side coating (Stainless Steel).

    - Better corrosion resistance
the steel used for the external layers (Stainless Steel) guarantees the blade a high resistance to corrosion. The combination of the two or more materials used by Takefu Steel generates, on a galvanic level, a structure that improves corrosion resistance even on the wire.

  52. ExtremaRatio - Shrapnel OG Satin in San Mai CoS - knife

For this new exclusive collaboration with Extrema Ratio we decided to propose a best seller in the world of cutlery, the Shrapnel model. It's a satin blade version but the most important thing is that has been used, for the first time in Italy, the famous Japanese Steel San Mai produced by Takefu Steel. Specifically, we used the CoS (Cobalt Special, considered mechanically superior by 25% compared to the already appreciated VG10) for the central plate and the 420J2 (55 HRC) for the two side plates, in order to have a high cutting capacity, but at the the same time a remarkable resilience and resistance to oxidation.

A First Production Run of 30 pieces has been made.

SHRAPNEL OG is a truly versatile “back up” knife with marked combat qualities. Its leaf-shaped blade is flat ground at a characteristically low angle to a wide, extraordinarily sharp edge. The included hard sheath can be worn vertically, horizontally or obliquely (at a 45° angle). Tthe SHRAPNEL OG hilt design does not include a guard.

Use: tactical , sports , hiking , collection
Blade: Full , Japanese- rolled stainless steel ( San Mai) with sharp CoS to 61,7HRC in cryogenic tempering
    Handle: Forprene
    Blade length: 90mm.
    Blade Thickness: 6.5 mm.
    Overall length: 210mm.
Balancing: back to 0.5cm . by guard branch
    Weight: 214g.
Sheath: ABS with Tek - Lok multi attack
Notes: cardboard box with Extremaratio logos and certificate

    Clad Metal
It is a composite metal partly or entirely diffusion bonded together of different kinds of metals.

Metal composition shows higher performance which respective materials alone do not possess and the performance complements opposite characteristics of each material, that is "compound characteristics"

    Clad Effect on Cutleries

    Toughness
Like Japanese swords, clad metal is hard to break or bend, thanks to the toughness as the hard steel part is clad with soft steels.
    Easy to work on
Cladded structure is easy to apply on such works as forging, grinding, sharpening or polishing to make a sharp blade.

    Improved corrosion resistance
Proper material combination generates electrical potential difference and it enhances the corrosion resistance on blade edge.

    Better and long lasting sharpness
Steel after forging pressure makes the microscopic structure denser and improves the sharpness and ensures long lasting performance.

    Resource saving
As high class steel is used only for necessary part, it is perfectly cost effective..

    Easy distortion correction
As the steel is bonded with soft steel materials, its blade is hard to break and the distortion correction is easy.

Easy drilling and welding after heat treatment
Though the steel gets harder after heat treatment, the soft steel never loses its softness, enabling the material to be drilled or welded.

    Design improvement
Laminated patterns or Damascus patterns appear from basis materials which are bonded with different kinds of metals.
