Yatagarasu, in Japanese culture, is a three-legged crow symbol of driving owned by the Sun goddess Amaterasu. Yatagarasu appears in ancient Japanese documents, such as Kojiki (古事記), in which it is also said that he fought and killed a beast intending to devour the Sun, and that he is also the protector of the emperor Jimmu.
On many occasions, in Japanese art this creature is represented with three legs, although in Kojiki it is never said that the Yatagarasu has more than two. Today, the three-legged version of the Yatagarasu is used as a symbol of the football federation of Japan.
