Dave, known as “Desert Dave,” is a legendary figure: his expertise in primitive skills makes him one of the nation's leading experts in Stone Age survival techniques. Not surprisingly, he has added the role of Knife Designer to his already impressive resume. The Sonoran represents his idea of the ideal knife: a perfect balance of functionality and tradition.

The C.U.B. (Compact Utility Blade) is designed to serve as a compact and lightweight sidekick to a machete/bolo/parang in a tropical environment or of a tomahawk/axe in a forest environment. It is capable of performing all the important utility functions for camp and food preparation, leaving the heavy lifting to the other cutting tools. With an emphasis on compactness, the C.U.B. was designed with two styles of knives in mind: the Finish Puukko (with scandi sharpening) and the Kephart. Put them in a blender and you get the C.U.B. TOPS: robust simplicity!
