RAO ACQUIRED FROM VERSION ' AIR FORCE
Folding knife made upon specific requests of the department of the Italian Army 185 ° RAO ( Target Acquisition Regiment ) and is now included the eponymous department . The knife supplied differs from the calendar for the total lack of writings or logos on the blade.
HISTORY ON THE DEPARTMENT :
The 185 ° RAO of the'' Thunderbolt '' and ' a department from the ancient tradition, but brand new . It was born April 3, 2000 following the reconfiguration of the 185 ° paratroopers land-based artillery regiment . Headquartered in Livorno, and ' a department atypical weapon of Artillery, currently placed in the basin of the Special Forces .
Composed entirely of volunteers , the 185 ° RAO selects its members through passing a physical test and a qualification course of modules '' in difficulty ' growing .'' The tasks assigned to the men of RAO are varied, but all delicate : it is to gather information on enemy targets and ' pass ' at his command . On December 9, 1942, during World War II, KA-BAR presented a knife to the United States Marine Corps hoping it would become the standard-issue weapon. In cooperation with the Marine Quartermaster Department, the design was revised and production of an improved fighting and utility knife began.
During the war, USMC KA-BAR knives became so recognized for quality and widespread use that “KABAR” became a common name. It was adopted by the Marines, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Underwater Demolition Teams. In later years, many KA-BAR knives were reactivated in Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.
In 2019, KA-BAR joined Spartan Blades to form Pineland Cutlery. CEO John Stitt wanted a “KA-BAR” with improved strength, durability and corrosion resistance. During development, metallurgist Larrin Thomas identified CPM MagnaCut® steel as meeting these requirements.
CPM MagnaCut® is a high-carbon powder metallurgy steel produced by Crucible Industries and specifically designed for blades. Spartan Blades developed the Spartan-KA-BAR using CNC machining, cryogenic treatment and PVD coatings.
