On December 9, 1942, during World War II, KA-BAR presented a knife to the United States Marine Corps hoping it would become the standard-issue weapon. In cooperation with the Marine Quartermaster Department, the design was revised and production of an improved fighting and utility knife began.
During the war, USMC KA-BAR knives became so recognized for quality and widespread use that “KABAR” became a common name. It was adopted by the Marines, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Underwater Demolition Teams. In later years, many KA-BAR knives were reactivated in Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.
In 2019, KA-BAR joined Spartan Blades to form Pineland Cutlery. CEO John Stitt wanted a “KA-BAR” with improved strength, durability and corrosion resistance. During development, metallurgist Larrin Thomas identified CPM MagnaCut® steel as meeting these requirements.
CPM MagnaCut® is a high-carbon powder metallurgy steel produced by Crucible Industries and specifically designed for blades. Spartan Blades developed the Spartan-KA-BAR using CNC machining, cryogenic treatment and PVD coatings.

Founded in 1958 as "Sakai Hamono", it has its roots in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, a region famous in Japan for producing knives and swords for over 700 years.
Quality and innovation: The company was known for combining Japanese craftsmanship with advanced technologies. It produced a wide range of knives, from hunting and bushcraft knives to kitchen knives, and was internationally recognized for its high overall quality and excellent sharpening.
G. Sakai collaborated with many knife brands worldwide and also produced licensed knives for other companies.

The Demko Knives AD20.5 is a high-quality folder offered at a very competitive price. Fun to use and practical for everyday use, it owes much of its appeal to the innovative Shark Lock: a radical system that guarantees a secure blade lock, keeping your fingers safe at all times.The mechanism is activated by pulling back the “fin” with your thumb or index finger, in a movement similar to that of a flipper opener. Once opened, the blade locks securely and the fin becomes a comfortable thumb rest, complete with jimping for superior control. Additional jimping on the back of the blade and an optional high grip further enhance the handling and versatility of this folding knife.
