There is a special charm in objects born where steel carries memory. The Kanetsune Shinobi KB-209 embodies the essential aesthetics of Japanese knife-making, recalling the heritage of traditional blades: a refined 15-layer Damascus blade with a Blue Steel (Aogami) core, a handle inspired by traditional Japanese sword mountings featuring samegawa (ray/shark skin) with black cord wrapping, and an elegant Japanese-style wooden sheath. This fixed blade knife offers strong visual impact and is designed for light outdoor use, distinctive EDC carry, or as a collectible piece, combining presence, control, and time-honored materials.

Intended use: Fixed blade knife for EDC, light outdoor activities, tactical use, and collecting.
Production type: High-quality semi-handcrafted production inspired by Japanese tradition.
    Country of manufacture: Japan (Seki).
Blade: Blue Steel (Aogami) with 15-layer Damascus cladding.
Blade finish: Visible traditional Damascus pattern.
Handle: Oak wood handle wrapped in samegawa (ray/shark skin) with black cord.
    Blade length: 135 mm.
    Blade thickness: 4 mm.
    Total length: 260 mm.
Weight: Approx. 162 g (knife only).
Packaging: Knife supplied with Japanese-style wooden sheath.
Notes: KB-209 model from the Shinobi series; often listed as discontinued or difficult to source by various retailers.

A brief history of the brand
Kanetsune is a brand of Kitasho Co., Ltd., based in Seki, a Japanese city historically known as the “City of Cutlery.” The company officially dates back to 1964, with family roots in knife manufacturing and trade going back to the 1930s. The name Kanetsune is traditionally associated with a renowned master bladesmith of the Muromachi period, underlining its strong connection to Japanese forging heritage.

    Use and maintenance advice
The Blue Steel Damascus blade requires care: after use, it is recommended to wash by hand, dry immediately, and apply a light protective oil layer during storage or use in humid environments. Avoid dishwashers and prolonged contact with water or aggressive substances. The samegawa provides a natural, secure grip, enhancing handle stability even with wet hands.

    Why choose this knife
The Kanetsune Shinobi KB-209 is not just a knife, but an object with a strong identity: 15-layer Damascus Blue Steel for a distinctive cutting edge, a traditional handle with samegawa and cord for control and authenticity, and a Japanese-style wooden sheath for elegant presentation. An ideal choice for enthusiasts seeking a fixed blade with true Japanese character, beyond common Western designs.

The Operator 7 model is huge! TOPS Knives has dared to create an imposing knife with a thick blade and solid handle, creating a balanced tool that excels as a true “workhorse.” At the same time, it retains that classic American combat knife aesthetic, looking as spectacular as it performs.

Made from 8 mm thick 1075 steel, the blade is differentially heat treated: the edge is impact resistant, while the spine is incredibly sturdy. The handle combines sand-colored Micarta on the lower part with black G10 on the upper part, offering optimal grip. Once assembled, the handle is over 2.5 cm thick, shaped to fit perfectly in the user's hand, just like an axe or hatchet handle.

Designed to be useful and comfortable, this knife is for those who don't hold back. It is at home with door kickers, survivalists, and weekend enthusiasts alike. The rounded handles and guard ensure comfort of use, while the finger choil allows for great precision in the most delicate cuts. The 16.5 cm of active edge covers most needs, and the weight of the knife helps to do most of the work itself. The included Kydex sheath with dangler attachment makes it easy to carry in any terrain.

The Silent Hero was designed by Anton Du Plessis, then Head of Operations for the Silent Heroes Foundation Special Interdiction Unit, whose mission was to fight poaching in South Africa. This knife needed to be durable, versatile, and able to withstand field use — requirements that shaped the design of both the blade and the handle. It is built to handle heavy-duty tasks.

The Sonoran Desert covers nearly 260,000 square kilometers between the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. For someone like Dave who spends more time off-grid in this region than in places with modern conveniences, it is clear that his experience in the field ensures the quality of this knife. The Sonoran is designed to excel and meet virtually any challenge in extreme environments such as this.

Dave, known as “Desert Dave,” is a legendary figure: his expertise in primitive skills makes him one of the nation's leading experts in Stone Age survival techniques.
