This slender-shaped knife with a curved handle derives from ancient models used by the shepherds of Abruzzo. Its adoption in the repertoire of knives manufactured in Scarperia (where the particular crease of the handle earned it the name of "hunchback") dates back to the late nineteenth century and took place without flashy changes compared to the original type, equipped with a simple spring and one-piece bovine horn handle. The Maremmano is a horn tip model.
