This replica of Major Von Tempsky's 6.5” Bowie knife is inspired by the design of the knife he created and assigned to his company of Forest Rangers in 1863.

Gustavus Ferdinand von Tempsky (1828-1868) was a German-born adventurer, soldier and artist, known for his role in the New Zealand Wars and for his leadership among the Forest Rangers. His adventurous life and courage made him a legendary figure, particularly in the context of battles between European settlers and Māori peoples.

He learned the advantages of Bowie knife fighting in California during his stint as a prospector, where he had acquired an excellent American-made knife; once he arrived in New Zealand and found himself in charge of Forest Ranger Company No. 2 with the rank of major, he had about 30 Bowie knives made for his men according to his personal design by a blacksmith in Shortland St. Auckland. The Forest Rangers were an elite corps of mounted scouts employed by the colonial government between August 1863 and October 1867 during the New Zealand Wars.

At the time, knives were made of wagon spring steel, one of the few steels available to blacksmiths in Auckland in 1863, and Von Tempsky, an experienced fighter, taught his men the use of the Bowie knife in hand-to-hand combat. The knife was used to defend against enemy blows while a pistol was usually held in the other hand.

In addition to combat, Bowie knives were used to open paths in the forest, dig defensive positions, cut firewood, and for general use while camping.

The USMC Fighter model is our modern and improved version of the classic multi-purpose knife made famous by the United States Marines.

This fixed blade is 6.5mm thick and made of CPM-S35VN sintered stainless steel with Black DLC treatment, measures nearly 30cm. in total length, has G-10 grips with a three-dimensional machined surface, a two-piece Titanium guard with DLC treatment, and a billet Titanium pommel with DLC treatment.

This unique full tang design has all the advantages of a classic slide-over construction without compromising strength, as would be expected from a Medford! With handcrafted brown leather sheath, it is a true 21st century combat knife.

Exclusive knife in entirely handcrafted "Comix" coloration, part of a batch of products made especially for the Atlanta 2023 Blade Show.

"Comix" type coloring refers to a coloring technique used in comic books and illustrations that is inspired by the style of traditional comic books. This style of coloring often features flat, bright colors with sharp edges between different shades. Some hallmarks of comix-type coloring include:

Flat backgrounds: Areas of solid color are applied without shading or complex tonal gradations. This gives a more "clean" and stylized look to the image.

Sharp edges: The borders between different shades of color are often marked by black or dark contour lines. These lines define the boundaries of the various elements in the image and accentuate the contrast between the different colors.

Bright colors: In comix-type coloring, bright, saturated colors are often used to create visual impact. These colors can be used to distinguish characters or to emphasize certain elements of the image.

Simplified shading: Although comix-type coloring may include shadows and highlights to add depth, these are often simplified compared to other coloring techniques. Shadows may be represented by areas of darker color or simple lines or brush strokes.

In collaboration with Wander Tactical, a unique and exclusive piece to collect, the Godfather model, in a satin blade version with San Mai Japanese steel blade produced by Takefu Steel.
This time, in the rich catalog of products offered by them, we have chosen a particular steel with a carbon cutting edge, but with external stainless steel cheeks. Specifically, for the central sheet we used the carbonaceous V-Toku2 at 62 / 63HRC and the SUS410 for external lamination in order to guarantee a very high cutting, penetration and sealing capacity of the wire together with an ease of regrinding and maintenance; at the same time the blade has a remarkable corrosion resistance and an important increase in resilience given by the laminated structure.

Takeshi Saji was born in 1948 in Takefu ( Fukui Prefecture ) , a city located approximately in the center of Japan and in the heart of an area for centuries devoted to the production of blades . His lab is still there, built around the oven thanks to which, for several years now , Takeshi Saji forges the steel (especially damascus) with which he made various models of traditional Japanese knives . The choice of material finishes (mostly natural ) , the essential lines - evocative use - and the color combinations of rare impact his accomplishments make unique and unmistakable in view of the cutlery world and at home , have earned him the prestigious title of Master .
