Sardinia boasts a thousand-year-old tradition in metalworking and knife production, with a particular concentration in the Guspinese-Arburese-Gonnese area, historically linked to the mines of Montevecchio. This area is home to iconic models such as the Arburesa and the Guspinese (Sa Kuspidesa), symbols of craftsmanship handed down through the ages. This is where the work of Gian Paolo Cancedda, aka Furitto, comes in. This traditional pocket knife from Nontron is one of our best-sellers, a true symbol of the craftsmanship of COUTELLERIE NONTRONNAISE. This year's colors come from the 17th century Mora folk dress, one of Sweden's oldest folk dresses. Here the green fabric meets the classic Dala Red color typical of our knives. Together, they breathe new life into the color combination that once made the people of Mora famous all over the world.

Mora folk dress is still worn by people on special occasions, such as midsummer, weddings or folk music events. Over the years, the dress has undergone few changes and has remained largely the same as it always has. The "Lurisinca," a traditional knife from Luras in Gallura, owes its name to the Lurese term for a local woman, reflecting the feminine nature of the "razor blade" used. The Gallurese Razor Blade, a typical Sardinian knife resembling a point-less shaving razor, was essential in cork processing, especially for making "quadretti," precursors to cork stoppers. However, this practice has declined due to the economic crisis, forcing many craftsmen to close their shops. The Gallurese Razor Blade, versatile and always at hand, represented an indispensable tool for every daily need.

In some areas of central and southern Italy, it was customary to give knives as engagement or wedding gifts, assigning the knife the task of sanctioning the love bond.

There was a strong identification between man and knife: the lover who gave such a gift to the woman symbolically offered himself, while the gift given to the man could be interpreted as an exhortation to virile valor.

Some specimens of this historical knife also served as protection against the evil eye, featuring the characteristic “dice eyes” on the handle, while the blades were traditionally engraved with decorative and symbolic elements.

The love knives were also indicative of the social class of the family: less wealthy couples, unable to afford very elaborate knives, sanctioned their love with simpler, less worked, and less expensive objects, but identical in values and meanings.

W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company was created at the beginning of the century, at a time when pocket knives were as indispensable as a watch. Over the years the company has established itself as a leading company in the market launch of new materials and innovative designs.

The company's roots date back to 1889, when enterprising brothers, William Russell (W.R.), Jean, John and Andrew, in the Case family began selling craft knives from the back of a van in northern New York. In January 1900, the brothers formed the Case Brothers Cutlery Company, thus founding the first family brand Case.

J.R. Case, which he called the company with the name of his father, W.R., formed the W.R. Case & Sons in the form in which it is known today. When the company moved to Bradford, Pennsylvania in 1905, the four Case brothers had made their family brands the most respectable names in cutlery in America.

At the beginning of World War I, the government appealed to the Case for the production of military knives for American fighters. During the flight of the "Molly Brown" in 1965, astronauts Gus Grissom and John Young used special Case knives in the NASA space mission. Case has garnered famous and avid collectors like former US President Dwight D. Eisenhower and country music star Randy Travis.

Giovanni Piscitelli, born in Frosolone (IS). The passion for collection and hunting knives I inherited from my father (master craftsman) from whom I also inherited the most sophisticated techniques. My knives are unique pieces, strictly handcrafted.

When producing a knife, there are many elements that make a difference. In addition to a difference in value in the choice of materials, it is the labor required to perform certain operations, closely connected to the construction complexity that makes the knife more valuable. The reasons that justify the differences can also lie in the processing of the blade, or of the handle (elements that it is good to remember are modeled and finished exclusively by hand).
