The Benchmade Foray 698-181 Gold Class is one of the most prestigious interpretations of the compact Foray, produced by Benchmade as a Limited Edition from the Gold Class series, the line dedicated to the most exclusive models in the American manufacturer's production.

Gold Class represents the pinnacle of the Benchmade philosophy: selected models are reinterpreted using premium materials, special machining and superior finishes, transforming a production knife into an object primarily intended for collecting.

The 698-181 combines a spectacular stainless Damasteel blade with Loki pattern with a handle made of marbled carbon fiber with mother-of-pearl inlays, creating a striking contrast between technical materials and natural details that makes each example visually distinctive.

One of the most sought-after versions of the Benchmade Foray

The Foray was conceived as a compact and elegant folder, characterized by balanced proportions and Benchmade's renowned AXIS Lock mechanism.

In the 698-181 Gold Class version, the technical foundation of the model is elevated through significantly more refined materials: Damasteel, marbled carbon fiber, mother of pearl, dark-finished components and anodized details.

The result is a knife that retains dimensions perfectly suited to EDC use, but whose materials, rarity and positioning place it primarily in the world of Benchmade collecting.

    Loki Damasteel Blade

The blade measures approximately 82 mm and is made from stainless Damasteel with Loki pattern, with a declared hardness of approximately 58-60 HRC.

Damasteel is produced through the processing of different stainless steels using advanced metallurgical techniques that create the characteristic layered pattern visible across the blade surface.

The Loki pattern used on this version creates a particularly pronounced design and makes every blade slightly different from an aesthetic point of view.

The drop-point profile also preserves the functional character of the original Foray, offering a versatile and well-balanced geometry.

Marbled Carbon Fiber and Mother of Pearl

The handle uses marbled carbon fiber, a lightweight and structurally strong material characterized by an irregular, three-dimensional texture.

The handle scales incorporate mother-of-pearl inlays, producing different reflections and shades depending on the lighting and viewing angle. Historical specifications for this model identify these inlays as Black Lip Mother of Pearl.

It is precisely this combination of technical carbon fiber and natural material that gives the 698-181 a personality clearly distinct from standard Foray versions.

    Gold Class Details

The 698-181 version also features a number of details specific to the Gold Class configuration:

    • Loki Pattern Damasteel blade
    • Marbled Carbon Fiber handle
    • Black Lip Mother of Pearl inlays
    • Steel liners with DLC coating
    • DLC-coated hardware
    • Anodized thumb stud
    • Anodized barrel spacers
    • Reversible tip-up deep-carry clip with DLC coating
    • AXIS Lock locking system

These features belong to the 2018 Gold Class configuration of the model, now discontinued and particularly appealing to Benchmade collectors.

  3. Buck - 122 Nemo Diving Knife 1967 White Teflon - PRIVATE COLLECTION

    * Sheath: Present, original Buck Nemo synthetic diving sheath, complete with retaining straps
    * Manuals, Certificates and Warranties: Original BUCK NEMO documentation with use and maintenance instructions included
    * Inspected and Certified by our in-house laboratory

The Buck 122 Nemo is one of the most fascinating and collectible knives from Buck's early production history and represents an important chapter in the development of the American brand. Introduced in 1967, the Nemo was specifically designed as a professional diving knife for divers requiring a strong, powerful and dependable tool for use in marine environments.

The Nemo design would subsequently give rise to the celebrated Buck 124 Frontiersman. During the earliest stages of production, the two models were essentially identical in terms of knife construction and were distinguished primarily by their equipment: the 122 Nemo was supplied with a dedicated synthetic diving sheath designed to be strapped to the leg, whereas the Frontiersman was marketed with a traditional leather sheath for outdoor use.

The example offered here belongs to one of the rarest and most desirable configurations within the Nemo/Frontiersman family: the early 1967 commercial production with white Teflon spacers. According to historical documentation from the Buck Collectors Club, the estimated production for this configuration was only 300-500 examples.

Its construction details are highly distinctive: a black phenolic handle, thin white Teflon spacers, a robust stainless-steel guard and the characteristic one-piece stainless-steel bird's-beak pommel, complete with a lanyard hole at the end.

The blade marking is also significant for dating the knife. The ricasso bears the simple two-line “BUCK / U.S.A.” stamp, without the 122 model number. Buck introduced systematic model-number markings only in later years, making this early configuration immediately recognizable to knowledgeable collectors.

The large plain-edge blade is made from 440C stainless steel, one of the reference steels used by Buck during this period and selected for its strong cutting performance, toughness and good corrosion resistance. Nevertheless, the Nemo's intended underwater use required particularly careful maintenance after exposure to salt water, something Buck specifically emphasized in the documentation originally supplied with the knife.

This example retains its rare original Buck Nemo diving sheath, made from rigid synthetic material and complete with adjustable straps for attachment to the diver's leg. The presence of the Nemo-specific sheath is particularly important, as it distinguishes this configuration from the contemporary Buck 124 Frontiersman.

The set also retains the original large two-piece ivory-colored Buck Knife box, typical of the earliest production period, and most importantly the rare original “BUCK NEMO” instruction sheet, in which Buck explained the characteristics of the steel and provided specific instructions for proper blade maintenance following use in water.

The knife is in excellent condition considering its age. The blade retains a very uniform satin finish and shows no evident corrosion; the handle, guard and pommel are likewise very well preserved. Only minor surface marks consistent with almost sixty years of storage and handling are visible.

The original sheath is complete and in excellent overall condition, with normal superficial signs of age. The box shows more evident staining, yellowing and storage marks, entirely consistent with its age. The original documentation is present and further enhances the historical importance and completeness of this set.

A 1967 Buck 122 Nemo with white Teflon spacers is already a highly significant piece in Buck history; finding one still accompanied by its original diving sheath, box and BUCK NEMO documentation makes this example particularly desirable for a collection dedicated to early Buck knives, American military and professional knives, or the history of diving knives.

  5. Boker Plus - Inarsil Folder by Midgards Messer - Dual Tone D2 & Black G10 - 01BP0061 - knife

Forged from the legacy of Narsil, Isildur’s glorious sword, the Böker Plus Inarsil is the result of a collaboration between Jörg Sprave and Midgards Messer, a masterpiece of timeless charm. A symbol of hope and courage in Middle-earth, Narsil—whose name evokes Anar (Sun) and Isil (Moon)—was broken during the Battle of the Last Alliance, losing its ancient power forever.

With the Böker Plus Inarsil, that small flame shines once more in the form of a tactical folding knife whose aesthetics are inspired by great fantasy swords. The symmetrical single-edged blade, with a dagger profile, opens quickly and precisely via a ball-bearing-mounted flipper; once open, the flipper also acts as a guard, increasing safety and control during use. The central scabbard and refined satin finish further enhance the “sword-style” look.

Made of D2 steel, the blade guarantees high wear resistance and excellent edge retention, making the Inarsil a reliable companion for both daily use and the most demanding outdoor activities.

The ergonomic handle echoes the perfect symmetry of the tactical design. The weight-reducing milled sections and carefully engineered balance ensure a firm grip and dynamic handling. The front features black G10 scales, while the stainless steel back maintains a classic, robust elegance. The liner lock secures the blade safely and reliably.

To preserve the clean aesthetic inspired by legendary swords, the knife has no pocket clip; instead, a triangular hole on the pommel allows for the attachment of a lanyard.

    Intended use: Collectible / Sport

However, it is not possible to remove the oxidation present on the passivating oxidation of the hamon. The price at which it is offered takes into account these aesthetic details, which in no way compromise its potential practical use.
    * Available on the market: unique piece, entirely handmade
    * Sharpening: Factory
    * Marks on blade: small spots of oxidation, some potentially removable (those on the edge and tip of the blade)
    * Marks on handle: None
    * Box: Sold with burgundy velvet case
    * Sheath: Like new, never used and never worn
    * Manuals, Certificates, and Warranties: -

CAS Knives is the brand of Argentine brothers Claudio, Ariel, and Marcelo Sobral, artisans specializing in custom knives.

In 2005, together with Ariel, he turned his passion for knives into a full-time business, which Marcelo joined in 2013, dedicating himself to the creation of sheaths.

Renowned for their use of the San Mai technique, which combines aesthetics and functionality, the Sobrals combine creativity, craftsmanship, and dedication, working from their workshop in José León Suárez, near Buenos Aires.

The blade is milled integrally to the knife to enhance its compactness and lightness, maintaining a minimal thickness while still having a profile reminiscent of the classic Extrema Ratio handle.

That profile goes to form two small guards and a comfortable thumb rest to prevent the hand from slipping towards the blade. On the end are a skull crusher with a diamond-shaped tip and a slot that allows a wrist strap to be attached to the knife or the handle to be fitted with paracord coiling.

The molded nylon sheath is designed to be extremely flat with very small side dimensions to make it as compact as possible. The design of the knife makes it ambidextrous, allowing it to be inserted into the sheath with the blade cutting edge to the right or left. The double retention system integral to the sheath consists of four pressure elements that work only two at a time, depending on right/left-handed use, while the nylon textile part has a button that allows the knife to be secured to the sheath.

The end of the sheath has a hole to expel liquids or debris inside. The ability to attach belt clip, ulticlip, malice clip makes it extremely versatile. You can also attach the sheath to the M.O.L.L.E. system by braiding the paracord.

  34. Antonini knives - Old Bear knife in SanMai VG10 a 67 layers - 23cm - multilayer black - Limited Edition

Antonini artisans from Maniago have created an exclusive and limited series of OLD BEAR knives using the famous Japanese SANMAI steel in VG10 with 67 layers. This beautiful project combines the tradition of a successful knife, patented and built in Italy, with the history and qualitative excellence of Japanese steel, made with a production process that dates back to that used for the famous Japanese swords.

The thickness of the blade goes from 2 mm of the standard models to 2.5 mm of this exclusive series, in order to make the knife more robust and performing.

To make the knife even more exclusive, for each of the three sizes offered, 60 exclusive pieces have been created, with progressive numbering engraved on the blade

    Type of production: semi-artisanal
    Production Lama: Italy
Blade: San Mai 67 VG10 damask stainless steel (60/61 HRC)
Handle: in plywood with satin brass ring with nickel plating
    Blade length: 100mm.
    Blade thickness: 2.5mm.
    Closed length: 127mm.
    Thick when closed: 22mm.
    Total length: 225mm.
    Weight: 68g.
    Closure: viro block

The handles are made of Italian olive wood. Being a model without return spring, the fixing of the blade to the handle is ensured by a solid safety ring in nickel plated brass equipped with a special locking device (covered by patent n. active partner of this project) which can be activated both in the open and in the closed position.

As early as 1100, expert Japanese blacksmiths combined different materials together to give Katana swords cutting, strength and flexibility previously unknown. Inspired by this tradition, Berkel has created a series of Japanese SanMai steel knives.

The blade consists of a core layer of extremely hard VG-10 steel, which keeps it sharp for a long time, and two outer plates made of 33-layer damask stainless steel per side, for greater resistance to corrosion and torsion.

Characteristics of SanMai steel: These are different types of metals bonded together to create a composite that encloses and intensifies the strengths of the metals individually taken:

    - Longer life of the cutting edge
thanks to the use of very high quality steels with high carbon content (VG10, CoS, Shiro) or sintered (SPG2), in the heart of the sheet (Core Steel), the blade, once hardened, achieves decidedly hardness and cutting performance higher than those achieved with the use of traditional steels.

    - Greater resilience
built with the principle of Japanese swords, multilayer steel is difficult to break thanks to the toughness of the central steel (Core Steel) and the elasticity of the steel used for the side facing (Stainless Steel).

    - Better corrosion resistance
the steel used for the external layers (Stainless Steel) guarantees the blade a high resistance to corrosion. The combination of the two or more materials used by Takefu Steel generates, at the galvanic level, a structure that improves the corrosion resistance even on the wire.

    - Easy processing even after heat treatment
although steel normally becomes harder after hardening, the lateral steel used in multilayer processing does not lose its softness and allows easy processing, drilling or welding even after heat treatment. For an optimal performance of the blade, cryogenic treatment is recommended.

    - Improvement of the aesthetic result
The knives made with multi-state steel or damascus pattern at the end of the processing are aesthetically elegant, refined and highly appreciated by collectors all over the world.

  38. Boker - Kalashnikov AK-47 Damascus by Chad Nichols - 11KAL48DAM - knife

In 1947, Mikhail Kalashnikov presented the AK-47 assault rifle he had designed to the Red Army and immediately convinced the decision-making bodies of its development. Only two years later, the now famous AK-47 was officially put into service as the "7.62 mm Awtomat Kalasshnikova obraztsa 1947". Even then, the simple and reliable design with a gas-pressure magazine with a swivel-head breech, the consistent use of stamped plates that could be produced quickly and cheaply, and the adherence to a class of cartridges introduced by the Wehrmacht with the StG 44 with an average performance between machine gun and rifle ammunition set the trend to this day. These characteristics have made the Kalashnikov system the most built and replicated weapon in history, with an estimated 100 million manufactured worldwide.

Introduced in 1959 along with the AKM, the revised variant of the AK-47, the bayonet was no less revolutionary and formative for later designs than the famous assault rifle itself. The concept was based on a knife originally developed by R. Todorov for combat swimmers. It marked a move away from long bayonets, which were used purely as cutting weapons, to a short, mountable knife with insulated shears and a multifunctional rear saw.

Mikhail Kalashnikov personally visited the Boker manufacture in Solingen in 2002 and officially introduced the Boker Kalashnikov knife line to the public. More than 70 years after the AK-47 entered service, we now present a truly exceptional special edition model of the knife line and once again honor its brilliant engineering achievement. The Boker Kalashnikov Bayonet Damascus features a unique Damascus steel blade, made from 6Ch3 and 6Ch4 bayonet steel according to the GRAU index of the former Soviet Army and decorated with General Kalashnikov's signature. The stainless Damascus, handcrafted by Chad Nichols, has 80 layers and is hand forged in the Virus pattern. It features an unusually intricate pattern that is the result of a very controlled forging process.

The handle is CNC machined from a block of 6061-T6 aluminum and then black anodized. The stabilized inlays are made of domestic hornbeam wood, reminiscent of the wood in the stock of the famous assault rifle, and together they form the shape of the characteristic vents on the fore-end. The Russian amber shellac color of the original stocks has been accurately reproduced. They are also CNC milled from solid and inserted by hand. All screws and clip are also black anodized. Made in the Boker knife factory in Solingen, it is delivered with transparent floating display, certificate of authenticity and individual serial number.

  43. Extremaratio - Arditi Black - Single-edged dagger - knife

The particular situation created in the early years of the 1914/18 war, now mired in increasingly complex and protected trenches and fortifications, favored the formation of men who, little by little, specialized in the coup.

Our assault units, the Arditi, had their dagger. It was obtained from the pieces cut away by the long blades of the Vetterli 1870 bayonets, which in the narrow trenches, in the corridors, between the reticulars were only an obstacle. It was certainly a rustic weapon, of recovery, not too beautiful but certainly inexpensive, light, not cumbersome and in expert hands also effective.

Today, on the occasion of the centenary, we remember this important page of Italian military history with a limited series of celebrations of 1918 copies. This version has a burnished blade, a polymer handle and a black cordura sheath.

Craftsmanship is beautiful because it is varied

The colors of the materials with which the handmade products are made may vary from those shown in the images.

Horn, wood and cornotech are raw materials that by their nature have a marked variability from one supply to another: it is the beauty of quality materials. Add craftsmanship, where the craftsman's hand never makes the same gesture: it's the beauty of craftsmanship. Combine all this and you will always have a different and unique product. It is always different from the one and unrepeatable product that we must necessarily photograph if we want you to understand what we are talking about and what we are offering you.

  55. ExtremaRatio - 185° RAO - 2018 Version - heavy folding knife

New version 2018 with improved grip: uses the same handle as the RAO II model

Folding knife made to specific requests of the Italian Army department 185 ° RAO (Regiment Acquisition Objectives) and currently supplied to the homonymous department. The supplied knife differs from the civil one only because of the total lack of writing or logos on the blade.

    HISTORICAL SUMS ON THE DEPARTMENT:
The 185 ° RAO of the '' Folgore '' is a department with an ancient tradition, but very new. In fact, it was born on April 3, 2000 following the reconfiguration of the 185th terrestrial paratroop artillery regiment. Based in Livorno, it is an atypical department of the artillery weapon, currently inserted in the Special Forces basin.

Entirely composed of voluntary personnel, the 185th RAO selects its components through the passing of a physical test and a qualification course on modules '' with increasing difficulty ''. The tasks entrusted to the RAO's men are many, but all very delicate: it is about gathering information on enemy objectives and 'passing them' to one's command. More generally, it can talk about '' recognition in sensitive areas ''. '' It is therefore evident - they stress to the Army - that the activity of the acquirer takes place mainly in hostile territory, in small self-sufficient nuclei that act in isolation ''.

RAO paratroopers are specialists in '' infiltration and exfiltration '' techniques and are able to move in the operating area '' for up to 8-10 days without external supplies ''. They know how to 'escape from capture, escape and escape from an' enemy controlled area '' and, above all, as '' identify, determine and evaluate objectives '' of strategic interest. Since 2002, the year of reconfiguration, the 185th Regiment detachments have operated in all the hottest operational theaters: from the Balkans to Afghanistan, to Iraq. Here they mainly carry out surveys for medium and long-range information purposes and for monitoring the area of responsibility of the Italian contingent.

The SOG S1 Bowie Vietnam 5th Special Forces Group is one of the most representative knives in the history of SOG Specialty Knives and the model with which the American brand began its production during the second half of the 1980s. Made in Seki, Japan, the S1 was created as a tribute to the famous knives used by members of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG) during the Vietnam War.

It is important to distinguish the S1 from the original “sterile” military knives actually used operationally during the conflict: the commercial SOG model instead reproduces the commemorative configuration of the famous MACV-SOG Bowie, featuring the U.S. Army Special Forces crest on the blade together with the marking “VIETNAM 5th SPECIAL FORCES GROUP”. This strong historical identity, combined with the quality of Japanese manufacturing, has made it one of the most recognizable and sought-after vintage SOG knives among collectors.

Production was entrusted to Ichiro Hattori in Seki, one of the most important names in Japanese knifemaking. The substantial Bowie blade is made from SK-5 carbon steel, hardened to approximately 57-58 HRC, with the characteristic dark gun-blue finish combined with polished surfaces. The handle uses traditional stacked leather washers stabilized with epoxy resin, completed by a sturdy metal guard and pommel.

This example features the classic SOG Specialty Knives logo on one side of the ricasso and, on the opposite side, the markings “SEKI-JAPAN”, the Special Forces crest and the inscription “VIETNAM 5th SPECIAL FORCES GROUP”. It is also accompanied by its original black leather sheath, complete with sharpening stone pocket and a large Special Forces crest embossed on the lower section. The original period identification label is still present on the back of the sheath.

The example offered here comes from a private collection and has actually been used. The blade shows scratches, abrasions and surface marks, both on the blued and polished areas; the leather handle has developed a noticeable patina and shows wear consistent with its age. The original sheath is also heavily used, with leather wear, marks and widespread abrasions. Its condition should therefore be considered good in relation to its age and nature, but it should not be compared with a display-grade or NOS example.

These very characteristics tell the story of an authentic SOG S1 made in Seki: a knife that, regardless of its cosmetic condition, retains all the appeal of one of the founding models of the brand and today represents a particularly significant piece for a collection dedicated to American military knives and Japanese SOG production from the 1980s and 1990s.

    Notes on the Designer

Michael Walker is to the knife industry what Michael Jordan is to basketball or Wayne Gretzky is to hockey. He shattered established standards, venturing into uncharted territory and elevating the art of knife-making to new heights of innovation and modernity.

In 1980, the folding knife industry had few locking innovations, and only the traditional Back Lock existed. In 1981, Walker invented, developed, and ultimately trademarked the Michael Walker LinerLock®, adding a leaf spring that locked the blade open, making it a true one-handed folding knife. He also included a latch to keep the blade closed by utilizing the force of the internal leaf spring, preventing it from opening in the user’s pocket.

This innovation paved the way for modern cutlery, enabling numerous new designs and future developments leading up to today’s SubFrame Lock, Frame Lock, Flipper Folder, and ball-bearing-equipped IKBS opening systems.

Other inventions include the “Lake and Walker Safety System” (LAWKS), BLADELock, Ball Bearing Lock, and Tough Lock.

Some of the manufacturers he has collaborated with include Spyderco, Columbia River Knife and Tool, Schrade, Böker, and Klotzli.

Walker’s knives and designs have inspired many other custom knife makers, notably Bob Terzuola and Ernest Emerson. Terzuola credits Walker with teaching him how to make a liner-lock folder, and Emerson has stated that seeing one of Walker’s knives at a gun show inspired him to become a knifemaker.

Walker’s knives can be found at the Artifex Gallery in Taos and in the most prestigious collections around the world.

On December 9, 1942, during World War II, KA-BAR presented a knife to the United States Marine Corps hoping it would become the standard-issue weapon. In cooperation with the Marine Quartermaster Department, the design was revised and production of an improved fighting and utility knife began.

During the war, USMC KA-BAR knives became so recognized for quality and widespread use that “KABAR” became a common name. It was adopted by the Marines, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Underwater Demolition Teams. In later years, many KA-BAR knives were reactivated in Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 2019, KA-BAR joined Spartan Blades to form Pineland Cutlery. CEO John Stitt wanted a “KA-BAR” with improved strength, durability and corrosion resistance. During development, metallurgist Larrin Thomas identified CPM MagnaCut® steel as meeting these requirements.

CPM MagnaCut® is a high-carbon powder metallurgy steel produced by Crucible Industries and specifically designed for blades. Spartan Blades developed the Spartan-KA-BAR using CNC machining, cryogenic treatment and PVD coatings.

    Intended use: Tactical / Military
    Production type: Industrial
    Country of manufacture: USA
    Blade: CPM MagnaCut steel 61/63HRC
Blade finish: ZrN Flat Dark Earth

Notes: the Flat Dark Earth (FDE) coated blade, when inserted into and removed from the leather sheath, may show streaks or marks due to the dye used for the sheath. The blade can be cleaned with petroleum or acetone, re-oiled (for example with WD40 or light mechanical oil) and dried with a clean cloth to restore the original coating finish.

Bawidamann Blades is a small, 100% American, family-owned company founded and run by Ben Bawidamann in Ohio. The brand stands out for its production of tactical and serious-use knives, designed for operators (soldiers, law enforcement, instructors) as well as EDC (Every Day Carry) enthusiasts or fans of sturdy blades.

The brand's philosophy revolves around unique and functional designs with distinctive and often aggressive aesthetics, with ideas that originate from the operational world and the designer's personal vision. The blades are made from high-quality steel, and many models feature special details such as custom finishes and ergonomic handles.
